I had the same propblem using excel 2000. I ended up using Mike Simpson's tools and converted the file with no problem. It's much easier that way anyway.

Use RS_Tools_TMB, select "Tools|Convert marker files" on the menu, works perfectly.
I used TopoRoute.com to create my series markers. It creates a .gpx file that is a different format than .kml files. You can edit those files in a plain text editor like NotePad. I wrote a Word2000 macro to convert mine - I had about 100 .gpx files to convert.

Have a problem with the same progam:
my *.xml files stay empty:confused:
like this
brussels.xml 0 kb
Also the TemplateRoute 0 kb.
EDIT: problem solved!

When you use RS_Tools_TMB, the Tools/Convert Marker Files menu will create your .csv file. Then you need to use the Easy Blueprints/ Markers-Named or Markers-Series menu item to format the file for the type of marker you want.
After you've done that, you need to put the resulting .xml file into your Source\<Your Name>\<Your Route Templates Name>\RouteMarker folder. Finally, you need to use the RS Asset Editor to export the .xml file to a .bin file. That will create a .bin file that can be read by RS.
Confusing but it works.

Rudder,
First, you need to have your source folder set up in RailSimulator as follows:
Source
Provider (you supply the name)
Route Name (again - you supply the name)
RouteMarkers
- Load your KML file into RS_Tools using the Tools\Convert Marker Files menu.
- Save the output to the RouteMarker folder you created.
- Using the RS_Tools Easy Blueprints\Markers-Named (or Markers-Series as appropriate) menu, enter the name of your .csv file on the lower line and the name you want the .xml file (blueprint) saved as in the upper line. - I would expect these should be the same name.
Click on Make Blueprint.
Now open the RS Asset Ediror and migrate to your routes RouteMarker folder. You should see the file you just created. Double click on the file to open it as a blueprint and click export. Your markers should now appear in your route.

rudder,
RS-Tools works... all the way ;)
Use and install version 3131.
Next to do = the correct path to "C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator"
Rs-tools must know this.
see Options > Select RS Path.
Ones you start using RS-Tools a complete directory will be made.
Like this:
C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator\Source\theokus\Route
I never made by hand that Source directory ;)

The markers folder needs to be 'RouteMarkers' inside your 'Source/{developer}/{product}/' folder. That is where the .csv files should be along with the blueprints. Put no spaces in the folder name.
[EDIT] Replace {developer} and {product} above with your route folder names.
You can have subfolders under the 'RouteMarkers' folder.
When you run the blueprinteditor you should see the 'RouteMarkers' folder in its list. Go to that folder (inside blueprinteditor), right click then click "create new blueprint". Choose the "GPS MArker set blueprint" - it's mis-spelled but that's OK.
You can rename that blueprint to a more descriptive name. Click the name (at the left in the list), you'll get an edit box where you can type a new name like 'SandRun Names'.
When you enter your .cvs filename in the blueprint the line will read something like 'RouteMarkers/yourFileName.cvs'. You can right-click the filename in the list on the left then click 'copy filename' then paste that in the .cvs name line. Again the {developer} and {product} lines are your route folder names.

You shouldn't be working in the developer folder!
First, make sure that you set up your route exactly as instructed in RS Document 2.08b (route Blueprints - Freeware).
Should have a directory structurethat looks similar to the attached pic.
You need to create the folder named RouteMarkers (spell it exactly as typed here).
Find your .csv file (use Windows Explorer search function if you need to) and put it in the RouteMarkers folder.
Follow the instructions I sent you earlier on how to create the marker file.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the great info on here,I have followed the instructions for setting up the marker files and it seems like everything works fine until I go to use them in the editor. I have the marker icon in the lower left box checked and they show up in the flyout box on the right top and I can click on a marker file there and goto that location, but when I get there no markers show up. Even tried to set them up as trees instead of flags as shown on here no luck:(. any ideas would be appreciated thanks again
Larry
Ps tried to put a screen shot on here, have to figue out how to get it smaller to fit requirements.

I found that I had to click the marker button three times to get the named markers to show up. Click to enable, click to disable then click again to enable. Magically the flags appear on the third click. Another bug to be fixed.

Hi all, you never know what is around the corner, named markers working ok. The scale between the tex. and the marker are way off. anyone know how to fix this ? thanks

Larry, Not sure what's going on with yours. Check your .csv file and see if the lat/lon figures are at the location your working in. Could be they're in a completely different area. I can duplicate what you have on the screen but, clicking on the marker name does not move my view at all. All my markers are showing up when I move to their location.
Rudder, As you move closer to the marker, the text appears to shrink. I should still be easily legible from a distance.
