I got the hgt files in the ...dem\strm folder.
I hit "T" and NOTHING EVER HAPPENS!

Forgive the yelling.I just spent 5 hours changing a bathroom faucet in a cabinet about 1' by 1'.

I know you have to be in the linear placement or object placement mode for this to work.

Also does the lat/long shown at the top of the screen match where your DEM data covers. I got the same result until I realised the DEM in the .hgt files I had was for a row of tiles below the ones I intended to use.

What do you mean "below"?

Hi,

First check point, your route has to be AWAY from 0,0...... theres NO DEM of any sort for 0,0
second , The route blue print states the lat/long of your routes origin, this is the lat/long of the *****.hgt files you need.
Third, This one has tripped more people than anything else I think.......

"I got the hgt files in the ...dem\strm folder."

Check the directory names .....\DEM\SRTM

minor but significant.

I've got it the right directory. I erred here not in railsim.
THe route blueprint seems to be the key here.
How do I enter my coords? Then how do I get there in the editor?
TIA

Mike,
Thanks - just mentioning lat and Lon told me which way to go.
My data was right, folder right, just had no blue print set.
RS-TMB made this super easy. Thanks again for all your MSTS and now RS work.
Creating that terrain just blew me away! When you lived on an island for most of your life-the detail of the terrain is amazing.

Colleagues,

While I have not had any trouble with .hgt files, (yet), I have run up against a problem that is not significant at the moment, but could be. Once a blueprint is set up, you cannot change origin without re-creating the route, which means deleting all references to the old version. I tried this as an experiment to see if I could gen. data a little further east than I originally had it, but no dice. There just is no way that I can see to "add tiles" to a route, certainly not as easy as it is in MSTS.

So far, my data goes as far west as about Prince, WV, and so far, I have not had any problem generating terrain as far west as WhiteSulpher Springs, but it is kind of sneaky. You generate the scenery, but until you get within a sight distance of the generated scenery everything is flat. I have not seen any thing like distant mountains either, although the generated scenery is quite good.

I plan to experiment another week or so and then go finish my H&E line in MSTS and after that is checked out and uploaded, I'll take a look back at RS, but so far, there are so many technical errors between what the program does, and what a US (or NOrth American) railroad should look like that I will wait and see what MSTS-X offers.
