SRTM Tutorial?

Hi guys. I'm trying to create a DEM for the CP Crowsnest Subdivision in Southern Alberta. I used 1:50,000 datasets as the tutorial described. However, when merging the DEM files in MICRODEM, after I've selected 'cancel' to save the merge after the DEM files have been selected, I go to close the MERGE window and I get this messge: "Grid all missing data. Proceed?"

Clicking yes closes the window, but when I go to open the merged DEM, the file is "Not acceptable DEM".

I've tried redownloading the DEM data from Geobase but that won't work.

Anybody have a solution?

Never mind, I didn't extract the files.
