View Full Version : Using a scenario as a starting point for another?

Please forgive me if this question has already been answered. I can create a new scenario from within the Free Roam Scenario as per the tutes, but when I do that I always start out with an empty world (no railcars, AI traffic etc.).
Is there any way I can create a populated free roam OR standard scenario, then create new standard scenarios from that? It seems when I add a second scenario marker, it deletes everything and sets the route back to just the route.
What I'm hoping to do is, populate a route once, then create a number of switching activities that would start at different spots and call for different work, but I wouldn't have to create all the AI traffic, place all the cars, etc., each time.
Is this possible? I searched the forums but can't seem to find the answer to this.
Thanks in advance for any help!
:-)

Doing a series of scenarios , all sharing the same background AI movements , without having to re-do the AI for every scenario would be a time -saver.
So he clones the same route once for each scenario variation, in it's half-cooked state , then when each is done , he packages the scenarios and and they will all theoretically work within the single original route that the clones came from?
Or , will it only run on the clone that it was developed on?
If it works it's a nice way to develop a series of scenarios without all that extra legwork.

I don't believe I need to clone the ROUTE, just the SCENARIO. I'll work through Sniper's great pictorial and see where that gets me. If I can sort this out I'll be posting a number of switching activities for Cajon in the not-too-distant future.
I've posted my share of MSTS1 activities and can't wait to get my feet wet with this new sim. LOTS of possibilities!

Gotta read my stuff carefully, all too often I ramble all over the map, too much fun back in the 60's combined with old age left me with about three brain cells to rub together. Cloning a full route is now more difficult, need to set the object filter before copying the contents in. Cloning a scenario is DIFFERENT, you make a new scenario and it creates an empty \Scenarios\a1213b83-08bf-4281-91e4-d2fc4eaedf74 folder. It generates a scenario.bin file in that folder when you start placing rolling stock, but instead of placing rolling stock you go to the \Scenarios\1c4e676e-a188-471d-8c76-9c4c6245d6c3 folder (or whichever you're using for the "master", check the file dates or use RStoolsTMB to find out which is which) and copy the scenario.bin file from that one into the other. Look at the Free Roam scenarios in Port Ogden US2 in the file library, I cloned all of those from the original Churchtown scenario, too tedious to place all that over and over again.

Thanks, Sniper, that makes perfect sense and I'll do it.

Hi,
These days there is yet a simpler way to clone scenarios: at least with version 1.0.60 of KickStart there is a button "Clone selected Scenario with a different name". If you do this, you might get a warning if you didn't select to drive one of the consists first. Anyway, you get a new scenario with the same display name but a different file name. Now you select the newly cloned scenario (still in KickStart) and update the display name, the route information (if you want to), and the briefing. Save your changes, and when you start RailSimulator you have a new scenario with a different name which you can edit as you like. I just tried it :)
