View Full Version : KRS Scenario--Huffing Around (on file library)

Um either I'm doing something wrong or something is messed up.
Whenever I install the scenario KRS Scenario--Huffing Around. It tells me it's installed but when I go into Railsim no scenarios are listed for PO&N. When I go into the Route folder it shows scenarios.bak but no .bin file. If I rename the .bak to .bin I see the scenarios but not the Huffing Around one.
Help!
Using: Railsim with MK1 installed (US version).

Hi, Dave,
What version of PO&N do you have? I built the Huffing Around scenario on US version 2, available on Train-sim.

Who's hammering on the door? Oh, it's the Hammerman! Heya Dave! Long time no see!
Well, you probably have the right version of PO&N, but got a corrupt download or are missing one of the files RStoolsTMB is dependent on. First thing to try is downloading it again. Mike's installer first makes a backup copy of the scenarios.bin file and names it scenarios.bak before appending the code for a new scenario to it, sounds like it's making the backup and deleting the original because either comdlg32.ocx;
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?t=263710
is missing, or you don't have serz.exe. You get serz.exe by downloading and installing either an official addon or the package manager from www.railsimulator.com (http://www.railsimulator.com), don't get me started on why it wasn't included with the game.
So;
Step 1, check your Railsimulator folder, see if there's a \Packager subfolder with serz.exe in it.
Step 2, check your Windows\System32 folder (or whatever the equivalent is for Vista if you have that) to see if there's a comdlg32.ocx file in there.
Step 3, if those check okay, try downloading the zip file again.
And report back, I've been looking for a new lab rat for this game and you were always on of my favorites for MSTS!

I'm no Coconut God but, try copying Serze.exe to your Windows/System32 folder. That's where RS_Tools looks for it.

Shouldn't be a factor, in fact if I had stopped to think about it, it should have been obvious that all the elements were already in place - else how would he have the route installed? The route uses RouteSetup.exe rather than AssetSetup.exe, but both of those are created by RStoolsTMB and have the same dependencies. Only thing I can think of at this point is anti virus or something similar interfering. I have F-Secure anti virus, and every time Mike sends me a new beta of RStools or KickStart I double click on it and nothing happens. If I'm paying attention I see a quick teeny little popup at lower right that lasts about 3 seconds, message from F-Secure saying application was blocked, but it's so small and so quick I inevitably miss it unless I'm looking for it. Problem there is F-Secure considers files with a .bin extension to be "system files", and anything trying to alter a .bin file is "malicious software". So each time I try an updated version I have to go in and assure my anti virus that it's okay, maybe this is something like that.
Tried some rudimentary tests like opening the zip (WinZip classic mode) and double clicking on AssetSetup.exe inside the zip without extracting to a temp folder first, what that does is show the install screens and tells me the package was installed without actually doing it, it don't delete the scenarions.bin file. In other words doing it that way doesn't install the package but I still have the default scenarios in the list.
Gotta do some more tests, meantime try deleting the route, then downloading both the route and the scenario again, see if reinstalling both works.

reinstalled the route and scenario nadda!
Had to rename the scenario.bak to .bin to get the scenarios to display again :S
I'm not totally confused and lost.
KRS (US version) + MK1 + pon_us2
SD40 is installed
Green tanker is installed
Retail Package 1-5.rpk installed
I'm totally confused now? Is there a program I can install to check for missing items like how they did in MSTS?
Comp specs:
OS: Windows Longhorn XP Home Edition 6.0 (Build #6000)
CPU: Intel Pentium III, 2.20 GHz

Lemmee see if I got this straight, you're "not totally confused and lost" and two lines later you're "totally confused now"?
RStools (the missing bits) in the file library will check a scenario for missing trainsets, but if the scenario won't install that won't do you any good cuz there's no scenario to check!
Try disabling anti virus instant messenger automatic updates and the Britney Spears instant news search and whatever else you have running, see if you get the same symptoms. And shoot me an email, haven't talked to you in so long I don't have yours anymore, and I suspect we're gonna need to zip up various files and send them to Australia for analysis.

Jim passed me your problem.
Looks like you did not read the 'readme'
It says "install this scenario by extracting to a temp folder and double click on AssetSetup.exe" but the result you are getting is what can happen if you run AssetSetup.exe from within the .zip file
Mike.

and Mike I'm not that's the issue.
Hmm now when I reinstall the scenario I get this message
http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/7816/huffingfolderrt3.th.jpg (http://img360.imageshack.us/my.php?image=huffingfolderrt3.jpg) <-- folder where I extracted the .zip

http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/1912/krsinstalledxc8.th.jpg (http://img379.imageshack.us/my.php?image=krsinstalledxc8.jpg) <-- this is normal for assets.
http://img380.imageshack.us/img380/436/routefolderxm9.th.jpg (http://img380.imageshack.us/my.php?image=routefolderxm9.jpg) <-- now this is weird
Hmm sending stuff to Aus is not an issue as I know lots of people in Aus (People who work for Auran that is :P )

Wondered where you'd been all these years, you went over to The Dark Side, been playing with Trainz!
Missed a couple things, did you try (1) redownloading the zip to confirm it's not just corrupted file, and (2) disabling antivirus? Mike, I tried that to see if I could duplicate but when I run AssetSetup from within the zip instead of extracting first, I get the success message but nothing happens. Nothing as in it don't actually install anything, but it also don't delete the scenarios.bin file like he was getting at first.
Dave, you need to click on my name and view public profile, then "send email to sniper297", either that or edit your user CP to allow other members to send you emails cuz it's blocked by default with this new forum software.

2) Disabled AV same result :S

Good news! Mike's fix fixed it as well as Jim's test scenario.
I've ran RSTools_TMB and it showed the scenario installed and it also noticed I was missing the tank2 car (thought I installed it).
Thanks to Jim and Mike for the fix now time to check this scenario out!

Hi,
I am looking for these tank-cars that are used in the Huffing scenario:
tank-car-def2
tank-car-v2
tank-car-v4
tank-car-v5
I cannot find these in the train-sim file library. Any help?

you can get them here
ftp://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/railsim/
they are part of the addon packs that ea put out as a bonus to buy the us version of RS.

Hi,
Thank you for the quick response. However, after installing all five packages the tank_car_def2 still turns up missing. As we know, such is the most common reason for a scenario failing to load.

I get this message when installing the activity:"Serz.exe is not available in your Windows system 32 folder".Jim are you there?:o You mention the following file:comdlg32.ocx that should be within the Windows system32 folder. That file is not there so where can I find this file? Thanks in advance.Look forward to try this activity.

OK I got the scenario but now that says: scenario failed to load! I noticed that the route is US 1 instead of 2.Could it be the reason why?

Hi,
I think it is, because with Version 2 Jim introduced dedicated AI tracks and trains, together with signalling (US signals, of course). He even got the diamond crossings between player tracks and AI tracks right. I ran into several situations where one was held up in favor of the other - even an AI train was held in favor of the player train, happened on the Churchtown Docks scenario. I was mighty glad when I found this, and I will look at his signalling setup, including the lua scripts and the placement of the route links.
By the way, by now there is already PO&N 3B3, still Beta, but Jim will certainly want feedback from us.

Thank you Dralex for your reply, I downloaded the route via Rail Serve. It is written version2 so I should have the second version of the route but in the sim it is written Port Ogden US1. Well, I'm mixed up here...

I just did a try on loading the Huffing around without AI trains and it works fine.So the scenario with AIs fail to load in the sim in my case.Maybe some non-default rolling stock is missing, well I don't know:(

So it did when I tried to run the scenario the first time. Using Mike Simpson's KRS_Tool_TMB I checked the scenario and indeed found some cars missing. See above in this same thread. Just a few minutes ago I acquired the last of the missing tank cars (thank you, Tonyman). However, now that the scenario is running, I have a different Huffing problem. Rather at the end of the scenario you have to put three tank cars to the marker Makeup2, with some other cars already placed at Makeup1. You have to figure out how to do this. I tried running around the first consist at Makeup1 using the mainline track, then pushing my three tankers (coupled to the front of my engine) to reach Makeup2. Which I cannot do because of a signal showing red and denying the access when I try to tab past it.
Jim, can you tell me why this signal is there? You are the guru for this route and for US signals. Should this signal not be permissive?
Thank you,
Dralex

Either at Mike Simpson's site: http://members.optusnet.com.au/virtualtrains/downloads.html
or at the American Train-Sim site: www.train-sim.com.
Also take a look at RS_KickStart with which you can change your scenarios in many ways, even clone scenarios.

Hello, everyone...
In the post-MK2 era, I'm finding that scenarios don't always run the same way they used to, so I'm checking all of my PO&N scenarios and editing where necessary. This time I'll also try to use more easily and reliably downloadable rolling stock. As they're ready, I'll upload the new versions and perhaps when all are ready, I'll put together a full pack of all of them. They'll be clearly labled according to the version of PO&N (2) and the need for the MK2 patch. I expect that the day I finish this project, MK3 will appear.

Once again, Tom, thank you soo much for your continued work.. Looking forward to installing all the scenarios, I'm getting a little board with running around the south-west desert. For now I have just installed the PO&N US2 and will hold of in downloading the rest, including Huffing Around..
