hi,
I have got to the end of the "howTo" engine doc and pressed export and not a great deal seemed to happen in the way of DOS windows flashing past, it did come back with successful build though. Pressing preview brought up a nice little grey box in the asset editor window which is the collision box. clicking on this gives me the list of gizmos I can shuffle around but I have no graphic representation of the loco?????
I can find it listed in the game but clicking on it shows nothing. Checked my way through the engine doc and all appears to be correct, but oviously isnt, any clues as to where to look would be appreciated. I can import the SimpleEngine.igs file into 3dcanvas and the complete loco is there

Hiya,

If the model wont preview in the Asset Editor, chances are it is something to do with the model itself and not the blueprint you have created to use it.

Have a look at the 'How to create Scenery' document to test that your have exported your shape from 3D Canvas correctly and that the IGS is valid. If you cannot preview your IGS as a scenery object you'll need to go back and check you have done everything correctly in 3D Canvas.

hi,

Thanks Adam for that new found quick check trick. My efforts show up as a scenary object. Ever so slightly below ground level but thats a minor detail ;-) but it does add just a little confidence to my new found 3d abilities.
Guess I just might have to try redoing the engine blueprint from the begining again.

Hi Ross
I have had that problem as well. Make sure your "Y" value is 0.0 for the underframe or solebar wichever you use to export. Also the bogies have to have a "Y" value 0.0 as well before you export to the asset editor. The other problem I have had is in the bogie blueprints,if they are not right the model doesn't appear in the preview window. The name of the model will appear in the game but when you click on it nothing happens..Hope this helps.

Hiya,

Missing or invalid Bogie Blueprint data I should highlight as a common problem of the engine not appearing when placed into the game. I intend to update the document with the other correction pointed out else where on this forum.

Just for clarification, although you are asked to specify positional data for the bogies and wheels in the Asset Editor, these must still be part of the main model. Rail Simulator will not add seperate geometry to the model simply by you adding positional data into the blueprint.

This data is required for the game to rotate the wheels and trucks accurately.

Hi,

Well................. a word missing in the simulation.lua file seemed to solve the problem, Other things as well I suspect like having the ****.xml file instead of the ****.igs file in one place during the engine blueprint recreating process.
Is called one small step, as the attached left image will show. but hey at least its in the sim and goes "Clunk" when it is on the track....... shame about being 90 degree to the track!!!!!!!!!!!!! wheres the "Gizmo" when ya want it LOL . Second pic is of scenery objects which was the first step.

Ross, Are you sure that the 3D model is "vertical" in the top view in 3D modeling program?

Did the Wagon HowTo 3 times....
In preview I have a gray box.
Problem for me is 12 to 26 on page 3

hi,

theokus, I would suggest you down load a new copy of the how to create a wagon document as it has been updated to remove the confusion that you have come up against. Try again.

hi,
jeff, your onto it. I imported the igs file back into 3D Canvas and it was Across the screen. No idea how or why as I definitly built it "vertical" having worked my way though a couple of tutorials about building engines in Canvas as I learn how to use the program.
I had played with the direction Gizmo and the coupling thingys in the asset editor before trying it in the Game so I wasnt to sure what I had done to it as I did observe the engine blueprint in the blue print editor update itself every time I altered things around in the asset editors.

Getting something into the sim was wonderful moment. The next version will have much better bogies. Sure is a fun learning curve. I have done nothing previously even remotely close to all the things I am learning to achieve this.

hi,
I seem to have hit a brick wall on getting my pride and joy to sit along the rails and not across them.

Using 3D Canvas and followed one of the basic tutorials about extruding a shape. Made the cross section shape as per the tutorial and then have to turn it 90 degrees on the vertical(3DC = Y) axis so that extruding it becomes the length of the body along the Z axis, Just like the tutorial. I have the model sitting centre on 0,0,0 with the models xyz gizmo thingy at ground level and facing along the z axis which is away from me up the screen. It makes no differance which 3DC export process I use. The end result is turned 90 degrees off, as though it is reverting to the original oriantation of the first made cross section. Suggestions please.

The good news is the model is all there, body, bogies and wheels. I was able to work through the how to doc substituting all my own values and file locations and succeeded in seeing it in the asset editor preview first time. Its True................. gets easier and the Docs make a LOT more sense after a few run throughs. Will be a while before I am bold enought to say I know what I am doing though ;-)

And then theres all that textureing stuff...............
