lets say you have 2 trains leaving oro grande headed to barstow. they are on both main tracks one going with the flow and one against the flow. with out any instructions other than end at barstow yard and the service type set to special. the train going with the flow will approach the crossover and will have a green signal. the train going against the flow will have a red signal. the with flow train will proceed past the next signal which will allow the against the flow train to diverge right? wrong the against the flow train will stay at the signal and will not cross.
How do you fix this? the simple answer is to edit the against the flow trains path with a stop at instruction. you have to get the against the flow train on the flow traffic track. set your stop at destination to the first marker past the crossover on the with flow track. which in this case is Helendale siding 2.
Now that you have editted the path of the against the flow train it has changed things when the trains approach the signals just before the crossover. Now the with flow train has a red signal, and the against the flow train has a green diverging signal. the against the flow train will cross the signal and take the crossover to get on the with the flow of traffic track. Now after the block has cleared, the original with flow train will get a yellow signal.
But lets say you had another against the flow train following the first against the flow train setup exactly like the first against the flow train. just it left oro grande 5 minutes later. than the first. the train that left with the flow will still have a red signal and the 2nd against the flow will recieve a yellow diverging signal. after the 2nd against the flow crosses over to the with the flow and clears the block then the original with the flow trian will recieve a yellow signal and proceed on to barstow.
So the way the signals are set up against the flow trains crossing over to with the flow at a crossover will clear before the signals will allow the with the flow trains to cross them.
Hope that rambling makes some sense to somebody.
