Hi All; I have two problems, and I don't know if they are related. My o/s is Vista.

Firstly, awhile ago I thought was having some download problems so I downloaded some files using WINRAR. I had been using GetRite. Now I have files in my TRAINSET that are shown as Winrar Archives. What effect does this have on train sim utilities being able to access these files because these files no longer show their extensions?

Secondly, something is putting new and or amended train sim files into a Compatability file, instead of directly into the sim. I can overcome this problem by using copy/paste from the Compatability file back to the sim, but its another pain in he neck! I've not been able to deduce the cause. None of the files are Winrar archives. I've been using TSunpack, ConBuilder, the AE, jEdit and Vista Notepad. Some of the files definitely came through TSunpack.

If anyone can enlighten me as to what might be causing the problems, I would be appreciate hearing about them.

Cheer; Chuck F.

WinRAR isn't a download manager. Getright works perfectly with the file library here (not sure about other sites). Extract the archives per the readme.

If WinRAR is not a download manager, then what is its function? Why have my file extensions changed to WinRAR, when WinRAR wasn't used to download them?

Cheers; Chuck F.

WinRar is a compression utility like WinZip.

If you have WinRar configured to uncompress zip files (which I believe it is by default) that would explain why your extensions are now rar instead of zip.

Don't know about Vista as I am still using XP.I use GetRight to download and WinRar to unzip.Works perfectly, does not interfere with MSTS.
