Hi all.

I don't know much about KRS, but would it be possible to add grilles, rivets/seams to the sides, etc. (finer detail), without affecting performance too badly?

Can't wait to try this baby, have to have it in Warbonnet, UP yellow, and SP black widow. Maybe even Rio Grande 1 stripe. Or 4 stripe. Dunno.

Rfranzosa:That kind of getail itīs too small (a few milimiters ober the body, some times) and need too many poligons and you will not notice it unless the camera it placed very close. If I made it, the sim performance will down too much.
Well...I been working several hours in the body texture. Rest much work to do.

I can answer, if you want, i'm from Argentina, the BUDD Coaches are very similar to the USA ones, we had 12 of them, to form 2 consist of 6 carriages each one, but nowadays we have 5 working in the special service called "El Marplatense" only in summer season, the 12 coaches where bought to Noth America specially builded to us, with 4 cars with chain couplings.

Well, I been working very hard and I get no results. I canīt get the F7 into RS like a functional locomotive. Everithing looks good. just so this is documented and is not just in a private message:

all objects in a scene must have lod info i.e. 1_0000_objectname, not just objectname. if you leave off the lod info things in your scene will not export and show in the game and/or editor. this will also happen if the name is like 1_300_objectname, there MUST be 4 digits in the lod distance entry.

Hi all. Thanks for the coments

Nikos1: The texture to controll the shine is not applied yet. I saw the mismatch...is in the list of things to fix.

Trackman44: I donīt assign any coupler yet. The cab is in process. Maybe today I made some tests with an early cab.

This model is in process, lots of things to do, like fan animations, working numbers, lights, fix glasses (too transparent), make wheels turn, assign couplers, put some smoke, controll the shine...and so...and then, make the B unit.

When I had trouble with my wheels not rotating on my 'SimpleEngine' I discovered that I had left a letter out of the wheel name. If I were you, I would check the naming of my wheels and bogies to make sure I was following the correct convention.

You can get the correct names from the "How to Create an Engine" document on the Rail Simulator web site.

Ya there just stand ins! They're called extras in the movie business. Or maybe they're just dummies. If the railroad company is suffering with few passengers just put those dummies in the seats, make people outside think that the railroad is doing alright! Like in MSTS, we need to create different locos (or passenger cars) to do different things. Locos with and without personnel (engineer, brakeman, conductor), locos with no power (dead heading). I don't think we need to create reverse locos ( like in MSTS where the trucks/bogeys didn't follow the track). And don't forget passenger cars with and without passengers and weight. I guess we need to get cracking on the creation side of things. So make stuff people!

Lord Mannu, That looks awesome! The weathering on the fuel tank and plow really brings the detail out.

Hi all. I made some advances in the B unit. Texture need to be placed in the final position and another issues needed too.

Now I am looking for exhaust points in the roof and how to attach animations. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Here is how to add exhaust:

You should already have a Source\Developer\Addon\Particles folder that includes examplesmoke.xml

Copy the Particles folder to what ever folder you are using for your F7 (Source\Provider\Product\Particles).

In your F7 Engine blue print, add the Particles\Example_Smoke.xml as a child.

You can use the asset editor to roughly locate the smoke in relation to your model, and then fine tune the location by editing the engine's bin file after exporting. I recommend that you also substitute one of the particle files from the Assets after you export the engine for more realistic diesel exhaust.

I am guessing that your animations are for your cab view controls. Place the animation (.ia) files in the CabView folder.

You may want to do what I did that helped me learn how the Rail Simulator engine bin files work.

I copied the SD40 default engine .bin file as a Word Document and then followed it down line by line while I worked on by blueprint file. The .bin file follows the engine blueprint exactly and you can see what goes where.

thats more or less what i did, took an existing asset and went down the bin code entry at a time to find out what i wanted. i actually made my gp38-2 with no default parts except the couplers. everything else was made and implemented with the blueprint editor. thats the loco itself, the lights, the particles, most of the sounds (i used interior cab sounds from the sd40). at the time i didnt know there were source files i could use, but that is beside the point now that im pretty much done.

Tanks Dick8299, I have a working exhaust now. The animations are for the roof fans...I will made the controls in the future...I will try to study some .bin files.
Thanks a lot!

Looks awesome, keeps getting better and better!
Some of those textures look kinda low res though, especially in cab and the numberboards, the main body texture looks a little low too, what res are you using? For the main texture you should use 1024 by 1024.

The main body has 2 textures of 1024x1024, the cab has 1 texture 1024x1024. In the cab I put lots of things together in only one 1024 x 1024 image. Maybe some things will be checked.

When I created my locomotive, I could not get it to have any sounds even though I had included all of the control information that I needed for the sounds. It turned out that I also needed to create a sound emitter (I used cube .5m on a side) and then make a dummy audio blue print. Once my engine was exported, I editted the bin file to use the Kuju audio files and it worked OK.

Study the audio files in the Kuju assets folder and you should be able to figure it out.

again, study the existing audio. i was able to create complete audio sets from scratch for my gp38. the audio in krs is my favorite feature, you can add just about any sound you want for any feature.

Lord Mannu,

It has been a long time since we have seen any posts or news on your excellent EMD F7A. Is there any thing we can help you with to get the model completed?

LordMannu

Hi all. Iīm sorry. I been really bussy with my own life and I canīt work on the F7. Anyway I will try to release a version 1.0 (maybe) next week. Some things need improvement, but this is taking so long. I will release a 2.0 version in the future.

Sounds great LordMannu, the engine is more than good enough for my use. Do you think you could release the layered PSD texture files to assist reskinners?

LordMannu
11-29-2008, 02:48 PM
I think the psd files will increase the size of the files a lot. I will include a unwrap jpg. Anyway, if some one wants the psd file I could send it by E-mail
