ok, some of you know me, some don't. i think im ready to have a go at making a new locomotive for KRS. if you know me you know i deal mostly with 2nd and 3rd gen diesels, my specialty if you will. id like suggestions on what would be most welcome at this time, id prefer to start off with an EMD-made unit and try to work it into KRS. SD-> GP it wont matter which. so im interested in hearing what the most wanted locomotive is at this point.

Hiya,

You're welcome to take to ideas from this thread: http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?t=269472

Anything we plan on doing cant be copywritten unless a trademark name and contracts are involved, so feel free. :)

The obvious would be a GP38.

same thoughts Dan. we have a lack of eastern routes in the game (cmon someone). ill leave the route creation to the route developer guys, which i am not. i am a locomotive man, lol.

with that said, if i did a GP38-2- what roadnames?

Agreed. But maybe a 4 axle unit to go alongside the default locos would be good and might serve to encourage route builders. Although there is the GP7 from a Dick Cowan model there isn't anything else at the moment.

Roads - well maybe those that would be prototypical for Cajon? UP, SP, BN, ATSF, BNSF

how about a C39-8. There seems to be a lack of those in the train sim community.

Hi,
Although I like the C39-8s as well, I think a GP38-2 would be a better starting point. It is a simpler system for physics editing purposes, a better example to learn the RS process.

Id be happy if you got your existing TRS SD40-2 and GP40-2 into KRS Justin:)
That way i could quickly transfer over all my skins as well

I know the only US route so far is Cajon, but how about an eastern railroad for your GP38. I'd like to see: D&H or Grand Trunk Western, and if your doing a high hood: NS or NW. Just my thoughts...
Oh yeah, thanks for taking up this challange. Looking forward to seeing your work!

Its always eastern or western huh? What about the midwest? What happened to where I live? Did we fall in a hole?

Surely the whole point should be that the model should be as common as possible. This means that it can be repainted in all the various road liveries out - if the model is a 'niche' model which only a few lines ran then this would IMO defeat the object.

I think Dan has a good point. Maybe a leased fleet paint scheme...
Bottom line is I'll take the GP38 in any scheme!

I agree with Dan as well.
BTW Anthony, note my third suggested US route (in the RS general section, first thread) is a C&NW route from Chicago west ideally to Clinton, Ames, and Omaha. A branchline off from Belle Plaine to Parkersburg Iowa would allow for some locals as well. This would provide a nice breadbasket route.

A GP38-2 with blank skins so people can repaint until their hearts content. At the risk of repeating myself I think it fills a need in that it is a 4 axle unit. It is also very common with almost every line from Class 1's to Fallen Flags, to Shortlines running them.

Hi,

I agree with GP38 too. This engine reminds me my first ride in MSTS few yars ago...:-)

that would look good in SP grey if you beefed up the fuel tank a bit. Looks great though, keep it up.

i think this first one will be BNSF so it fits with the current route, however there will be others after.
