I got a bell to ring when going over the crossing. I did it without copying over an existing sound file just in case someone is wondering. Check out the video.

That bell is someone elses but I have my own which sounds just as good and came from a crossing on the cajon pass. I will release later on today and make a video with the new sound, which pretty much sounds the same. Im trying to make it louder. Which the sound in that video sounds about right but usually youre blasting a horn going over the crossing so Ill try and make it louder so you can at least hear it some-what.

Why does the SD40-2 " " when you throttle up/down?

Why does the SD40-2 "fart" when you throttle up/down?
Do you mean the thing that sounds like a horse? Could be whats on the hood :)

I got the bell uploaded and included detailed instructions on how to use it (including pictures for people like me :) ) Also, included instructions on how to make your own sound markers for RS for ambient sounds ect.

True, but I also think it also sounds like a tractor (when you shift the gears on it).

Its those replacement sd40 sounds I downloaded. somewhere I havent been able to pinpoint which is doing it. Depending the bitrate the file in question was saved as RS will play it differently than if I was to push play using WMP so its been hard to get sorted.

Im blowing the dust off this thread to keep what Im working on organized. Anyway, Im adding the crossing bell to the crossing gate this way you wont have to manually add it yourself like my previous bell sound. It will be the same sound but it will be added to all your crossing gates.

I have fixed the bell to gated crossings and provided a little video of the bell in action. You will not have to manually install this bell unlike my other. If you have my other bell sound placed at your crossing simply removed the files from your ambient sound folder and they wont appear or manually remove them. The first sounds were meant as a fix until i got around to fixing the sounds to the gates themselves.

for some reason the originals never worked for me, i placed the sound marker on the crossing, but no sound, odd. I hope these ones will work though, good work, lets hope we can get animated crossings sometime soon, or right now id even settle for some more variety like crossing towers and properly flashing lights.

Great job. I also watched your videos of the updated sounds for the ref trucks and others. Very cool.

Whenever you add the older sounds you had to delete your blueprints or they wont show up. This will install and work correctly the first time :) At the time I didnt know about the assetsetup.exe or RS_Tools for that matter. Im working on animating the gates unless someone else is working on it.

Hi James,
Are you going to animate the gates at random or have it animate when the train
approches? I tried making a blueprint for the level crossing but Railsim came up
with a send don't send message.

I havent messed with it yet but it would seem telling the gate when to go up or down would be my challenge? Animating the gate shouldnt be a problem but Ill take a peek at it later and see if I can do anything about it.

Hi James,
Good luck to you, I hope you have better luck with it then I did.
I don't know if they even have it coded into railsim yet.

thats what I was thinking. They may not even have an option to make the gate rise and lower. Im sure if they did it would do so. That kills me how little things like that got left out but on the other hand the gates would be down in real life before Id hit the crossing anyway so it doesnt really take away from the experience for me, the same goes for the sound. Maybe they didnt think wed care if the gate was always down :)? I hope they get the dynamic brakes and screens working in the es44 at least in this upcoming update. Id like to think they are since theyre taking a while with it.

This is just one of the reasons why Rail Sim is not considered a real rail sim in my opinion. Just all the little stuff that doesnt make this sim that real is hurting the sim and making it prosper.

I dought it as they have been working on a little payware route themselves. They can say that they got guys who are working on fixing the sim and other guys working on the release of their payware route. If it was up to me, I would be trying my best to get this sim up and running without all the issues before I think of anything else. Of course, That is just me and my way of doing business. Get your main product great first and then expand when and if needed. Not the other way around.
Anyways, Nice job on your detector that you did. It sounds great.

Yeah, I agree. More than likely the new payware stuff will be bugged also and we'll have all new issues to deal with. Myself and probably others are waiting for this new update before throwing the towel in.
Im working on carstrings now for the yars like in MSTS I have a few pics and remember the cars will be mixed up ect and these are horrible shots because of my pan but its something.
