What is the best and safest way to have two installs of RS on the same pc ? Are there any problems or considerations that I should be aware of in doing this ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

John

Im no expert but to try and answer as best I can in short Id think you cant because of the registry. I may be wrong but Im sure its possible but not without some headache.

Hi John !

You can do the same as we do when creating MINI Routes in MSTS.

Simply copy the contents of the installed into the Registry Rail Simulator folder to somewhere else on your hard disks computer and call it whatever you like.

Running their RailSimEditor.exe with Desktop Shortcuts and you can have as many RS copies as you like, space permitting ! ;)

My CAJON-OTTO-MINOR RS-MINI copy forinstance does not need any Assets other than the RailSimulatorUS & RailSimulatorCore ones, nor any other routes or UK rolling stock and consequently loads RS a lot faster, also not having to load all the opening splash screens either ! ;)

Id like to bypass the splash screens :)

Add this -NoSplashScreens command line switch to your RS Desktop Shortcut:

making sure that there is a "Space" between it and the closing " of the path name and to make doubly sure rename these files ! ;)

Hi John,

Just remember that if you download updates from RSDL, their Setup.exe ALWAYS copies into the install which is listed in the Registry, whereas using the PackageManager you get the choice of where to load stuff.

I have advised RSDL about this, but be careful if you download Patch #2 when it comes out to make sure it updates the version you want updated.
