**Sorry spelled REPLACEMENT wrong in the title!
I realized yesterday while descending cajon that you can throw the train into reverse and increase the throttle as a temporary replacement for the dynamics. Is this actually do-able in real life or would it destroy the traction motors?

Yep, pack up yer belongins and hand in your keys....YOU'RE DONE!
Seriously, if you want to destroy all your traction motors AND wipe out your train from in line train forces, that will do it. :) (Not to mention the 12 inch flat spots you just put on all the engine wheels.) Although the newer locomotives will not let you shift the direction you are traveling from, saving you from a dire fate; computers sure are wonderful, aren't they) :)

You could have a workaround. You simply call a diesel loco an electric one! But only problem is you would need to run them on electrified track.
