PCI to PCI-E?

I have a 2 PCI slots in my computer. Is there any "converter" or anything that will make it possible for me to use PCI-E graphic cards? I've been thinking about getting another motherboard but if there is a adapter of some sort than I'll lean towards that.:)

Even if they did make an adapter I would think the Motherboard itself would kill the effect of the PCIe card since a PCI bus is based on parallel architecture while PCI Express is serial based
