I have a new HP vs17e monitor with internal speakers and an old Gateway ATXSTF FED Performance 1000 tower. my problem, is that when i installed the new monitor, the computer won't respond to the internal speakers, and when i try to hook up the old external speakers i recieved with the tower and old monitor, they do not work either
my computer's current stats if needed:

Assuming nothing else has changed;
1. Check that the correct connection has been made to the three color coded sound plugs in the back. (Mic or aux in, stereo out, quad out if your sound card supports it.)
2. Motherboard or sound card?
3. Did the mute button get pressed on the keyboard?
4. Is the volume control turned up on monitor? Also check the keyboard one.
5. Is the Preference set up correct for sound output?
6. Did you lose the software driver for the sound card?
7. Is the sound card seated properly?
8. Did the internal connector for sound come loose?
