Hey guys, I just downloaded the Orin Line and it won't work. When it sets up the simulation i get the message "failed to open textures 'sun.ace' ", after that i get "route failed to open". Now I don't know what could be causing this. I have Xtracks and Realroads too, so the required programs needed I have. I'm stuck on this because being that it was an exe. file, I didn't manually install it and see where I could have went wrong. Could someone please help Thanks.

Steve,
Did you run the Installme.Bat file?

ummm:confused:........From what i read the installme.bat was automatcally run when i did the installation (command prompt came up and started copying files). Since i'm new and am most likely wrong, how would i get this file going?

Open Windows explorer, select the view menu, then the explorer bar sub-menu and make sure that the folders option is checked. Now navigate to where you installed Microsoft Train Simulator, probably
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator"
Click the plus symbol beside the Train Simulator folder to open it. Click the plus symbol beside the Routes folder to open it. Single Left Click on the PRB folder to select it and in the right hand window double click on the Installme.bat file (Note: If you have the hide known file extensions enabled, the file may be listed as Installme)
Once the process completes, try the route again. If you are still experiencing problems, I'd suggest checking the route using Route-Riter which is found in the file library here at train-sim.

I tried the installme.bat, and indeed, it was run during the installation. After running it again and trying the route it still came up saying cannot open texture "sun.ace". I'm going to download the route fix. Hopefully that will clear up the problem.

I tried the Route Fix and the Update and still no luck. It seems just to be that "sun.ace" file. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, no luck, so I don't know what to do anymore

Critical question here: Do you have all five of the default routes installed in the same Route Folder as the Orin Line?

Just a thought, Go into your USA2 route and open up the texture folder and see if the sun ace is there. If it is copy it over to the texture folder in the orin line. Another thought, You say you have New Roads, Is it version 3.2 with shadows? If not that may be the problem.
ECO_Pieman

Yeah Robert, I have all the routes in the default folder; I haven't touched the routes at all. As for your thought Concat, I'll give that a try and see if that will work.

Well the Sun.ace problem was fixed but as I figured I was into the clear, a whole bunch of error messages came up. For example (can't remember most) "US2yard.s shape file now found; signal.sms file not found. I solved one error, but got a handful more. From the looks of the files it looks like it had something to do with the Newroads.zip. So i'll have to check that out. Otherwise any more help would sure be nice. Thank you to those have helped me so far:)

I think I may have found my main problem. After re-reading xtracks, from the looks of it, I installed it wrong.

Well, it turns out I just didn't replace the TSECTION.dat file. Unfortunately this still isn't the problem. More of the files that came up were "Cannot find file 'ingame.sms'; 'signal'.sms, 'YardLts.s'" and other shape files as well. As of this point I don't know what to do anymore I've uninstalled and reinstalled all the route and required programs twice.

Install it and check it with RouteRiter. It will suggest replacements for missing files.e.g your "sun.ace" could have been copied from any other route,in fact there is an earlier thread on doing this to improve the appearance of a route and I did that to improve the UK LSE route. You can always copy sms files from one route to another as long as you also copy over the wav files. It is simple if you think about it.

I am not experienced, but I had same problem w/Orin Line and just checked w/ Route Riter. What a mess. LOTS of missing .s files and no alternatives.
I installed new Xtracks and that didn't help.
Going to uninstall, if possible, for now.

I installed new Xtracks and that didn't help.
But did you install NewRoads?
ECO_Pieman

Well I did get it to work, but as Johnearl said, the route was missing lots of shape, extended shape data, and ace files, along with some sms. So far I can only get about a mile or two until another error comes up, but i just write the error down and put the missing file into the route.
I'll download route-riter and try that. From how it sounds, it will make my job a lot easier.
Thanks for the help so far guys! :)

I went through with the route-riter and am still getting errors. Let me try and get this cleared up. Does route-riter fix the errors (the errors being the files that are not there) or does it just show which files are missing.

Perhaps if you could give us some specific errors, and are you using Vista?

No, I don't dare try Vista until more things become compatible with it. Otherwise I have a whole list of errors I fixed without Route Riter, but after I used Route Riter on the Route I got a list of errors. Its EXTREMELY long so it would be pointless puting it on this post. If someone likes though I could send it to them in a private message.
They're aren't really specific errors which I can list. Althought basically all of them are missing texture files, and shape files (.s/.sd).
I have this thought though. Do you think I could take the shape and texture folders of USA2 and just put that in the PRB corrisponding folders? All the files and textures that are missing i'm mostly getting from this file.

Well, if he only had five default routes, he'd be in serious trouble, considering there are six of them... (seven if you count the Tutorial).

Again: Did you install NewRoads and X-Tracks?
ECO_Pieman

Yes, I have Xtracks and Newroads installed and they are all up-to-date versions so I know that isn't the problem. What the problem is though is that the program is missing a lot of files; mostly textures and shapes. I downloaded route-riter yesterday and that's helping me a lot.
Hopefully by this weekend I will have enough know-how on Route-Riter and have the Orin Line mostly error free. (Although, don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth:rolleyes:)
Also, I know I have said this a lot, but I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread:), because I am new to the whole thing of going into files and putting stuff into train simulator. For the past 6 years i've used train simulator without using it's full potential:p. Thanks again guys.

Steven,
Sorry for the late reply but it's just too hot where I live to sit behind a computer right now ;-).
You stated earlier that you ran into an error saying sun.ace was missing.
Sun.ace is a file that is supposed to be copied by the installme.bat file and comes from the Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\TEMPLATE\ENVFILES\TEXTURES folder.
The same holds true for the US2yard shape file you've mentioned. My hunch is the bat file is running, but it fails to actually copy the files because of one of two reasons:
1) The folders it needs are not available (ie: the default routes are missing)
2) You are running Windows Xp and it is keeping you from running the batch file properly.
The latter has given quite a few people problems so check the forum to see their solutions (I must admit I don't know the solution off the top of my head). The former you can check by opening your ROUTES folder and checking that all folders are there (Europe 1 and 2, US 1 and 2, Japan 1 and 2 and 1 Tutorial)
Here's one of the Windows XP threads I was talking about, see if it helps you:
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?t=208302&highlight=Windows+XP+installme.bat
Also, make sure you also download and install the PRB Patch from the library, it also contains files some have reported missing from the main installer...
Try it and let me know if it worked ;-)

Thanks, the only thing i can think of is that i am running XP, but its not preventing me from running the .bat so i'll check out that link.
__________________________________________________ __
After reading the link, when i was running the .bat i remember a lot of the things saying "file not found" but as i went up to look at them, it did not specify a file and eventually disappeared as more files kept on copying. I was thinking tho, couldn't i just take the Textures and shapes from USA 2 and copy and paste them into the PRB textures and shapes?

Steven,
as a last resort you could do that. You could take the top part of the batch file (up until where the "mosaic_####.ace" files start) and execute the lines one at a time (open a command prompt and change into the ROUTES\PRB folder, then copy a line from the batch file and paste it into the command prompt, then press enter).
This way you can pinpoint which files are reported missing and why.
I'm sorry I can't be more of help to you... I think it's either the batch file is not executed correctly because of XP, or the files it needs to copy are (in part) missing from your Trainsim install. ;-)

Or, use RouteRiter, from the File Library, it will happily copy over any missing files for you.

I used route riter a couple times already, the first time it went through -I click "no" for the replace sound thing- I thought it copied everything but it didn't. It basically just gave me a big list of the missing files. So when I tried it again i clicked "yes" for the sound thing and about 30 seconds in an error message came up (sorry, forgot what the message said)

I installed this today, and have yet to see it. After nearly four hours of downloading, checking xtracks and updating new roads, I can't get it to open in Activity Editor or even get MSTS to open the default activity in it. I'd offer errors, but I haven't gotten that far yet.
All I have noticed is my other routes now have messed up roads, please help.
