"The speaker of the House made it clear to me and more than forty of my colleagues yesterday that a bill by Rep. Mike Pence (R.-Ind.) to outlaw the “Fairness Doctrine” (which a liberal administration could use to silence Rush Limbaugh, other radio talk show hosts and much of the new alternative media) would not see the light of day in Congress during ’08. In ruling out a vote on Pence’s proposed Broadcaster's Freedom Act, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-CA.) also signaled her strong support for revival of the “Fairness Doctrine” -- which would require radio station owners to provide equal time to radio commentary when it is requested."

Why the "Fairness Doctrine" is anything but fair. http://www.heritage.org/Research/Regulation/EM368.cfm

Why Liberals want it back since all their attempts to create liberal talk radio and liberal networks have been dismal failures and too few people will tune in to Government funded liberal programming public networks.

Once she is able to shut up the opposition by silencing talk radio, regulating internet blogs, and controlling information posted in The Yard under the guise of a Fairness Doctrine, liberals will no longer have to worry about anyone challenging their plans for Change.

There are nearly a 1000 comments posted already.

Here is one that clearly explains how the Fairness Doctrine works to silence the opposition on commercial radio;

"So let's just pretend we're talking about ice cream. Let's pretend I have an ice cream store and I sell chocolate ice cream and everybody loves it. However, Nancy and her socialist friends love vanilla. So she uses her power to force me to sell vanilla. Except I can't just offer that in another store, I have to cut my production of chocolate ice cream down 50%. Now when all my clients come in, I can only serve half of them what they want. What happens? I go out of business.

Which is exactly what Pelosi wants to happen to the talk radio voices that she doesn't agree with.

If you haven't done it already, read a few books by Ayn Rand. See what total control of a population does. It isn't a pretty site."

Post #925

"Who would have thought that not even 20 years after the fall of the Soviet Union would we find ourselves faced with the incremental march of Communism, and it feels to me almost too late to reverse it. We will wake up one day to find ourselves locked in a police state where the government tells us what's good for ourselves. Long live freedom. It's fading away."

Didn't Krushchev promise to bury us? This must be part of the plan. Banging his shoe on the table must of been the signal to start it.

On the serious side, the people who control the information flow control the masses.

On the serious side, the people who control the information flow control the masses.

Except that with forums like this and sites like you-tube the traditional media have lost their grip on the flow of information. Anybody can have a soapbox these days. It can be argued that this is the first presidential election where what the media says and does influences only a minority of voters. Lots of people I know don't even watch network news or read newspapers any more.

If Pelosi and her 'friends' have their way, it won't be long and we'll have no choice but to be confronted with the rhetorical diarrhea spewed forth by the likes of the Network News and the leftist newspapers. :(
