So last night I was out driving, and it was at 2:45am in the morning. Now this is the time of day where you have to be careful about deers, especially when you're driving through wooded areas. Anyways, I was driving down the road, and I was driving through a wooded area, and BAM, my car got broadsided by a deer.
I pulled into a church parking lot, and looked at the damage. I looked for blood and guts. Also, me being the paranoid person that I can be sometimes, I drove back and forth in the area a few times, to make sure I didn't hit a person. The reason is that well...heh...I really shouldn't been driving, I was recovering from a Summer flu. Luckily I didn't see anybody so I concluded that it was a deer. Pictures below!

So, since we're on the subject of stupid animals and cars, what is the worse damage an animal did to your car? Did you hit a deer, or maybe it was a porcupine? Tell us about your encounters of the wildlife when you were driving along on the road.

Yeah, this is getting much worse, a real problem because of deer overpopulation.
You think thats bad. I had two friends, husband and wife that were killed when they T-Boned a deer one evening and that was 20 years ago near Woodstock,NY. And my brother-in-law totalled his Suburu in Tobyhanna, Pa a year ago.
Edit Add:Forgot to add, my in-law got to keep the 6 point buck.
The downside is it cost him 600 bucks to get it mounted.
The upside is he wasn't hurt and he got a new car out of it AND his insurance didn't go up (and the Suburu needed an engine anyway) plus he STILL has frozen venison left in his freezer! Might tasty I tell 'ya.
I am paranoid about driving at night for this very reason.
I'm not sure but wasn't there was a police dash-cam shot of a deer that just missed killing a cop with a leap OVER the cruiser's hood, inches from the windshield about a month ago. That's the problem, these suckers JUMP out of the verge either into your vehicle, like yours did, or worse, leap directly in front of you. Not much you can do except hope the vehicles restraint system works as advertised, and hold tight to the wheel.
To add insult to injury, your insurance company will raise your rates if you put in a claim.

Sorry to hear about your friends and Brother-in-law.
I think the dents will pop out, but the door handle and lock mechanism will have to be worked on.

My sister got broadsided by a deer a couple of years ago. The door looked similar to yours. One of my cousins hit a deer on the highway. His car was totaled.
Incidentally, a cyclist broadsiding you at fairly high speed might create similar damage (does the road cross any cycling paths?). I know someone's door looked worse than that when I hit it (he ran a red light, I was cycling at about 25 mph). I knocked a door on an econobox clear off the hinges another time when the driver exited street-side without looking. Didn't even really damage my bike, and didn't fall either.

OUCH.... Be grateful his head did not come thru the driver's side window
That reminds me of my "turkey" hit back a year or so ago.
Also Sean...What was you doing out at 3 AM on a Friday night?? :D "WOOT"!!!
The damage does not look to bad, take it around to some "back woods" body shops, most of those dents will pop right out! And it should not cost too much to fix!
Heck, If the car was several years old, with high mileage, I may not even fix it (depends on the Book Value)...just drive it like it is. But that is me.
BTW, The plural, of "Deer" is "Deer"...it is the same as the singular. :) for future reference

A quick look can determine if it was a deer....Look around the weather stripping, and the door handle for Deer hair...also, it can be "stuck" to the paint.

Where my folks live, in Middle Georgia, the deer have learned to stay off the roads.
Until deer season. The bastids will empty the woods, and stand on the roads on Day 1 of deer season, and stay there until the end of the season, then go back to the woods after it is over.
Deer don't get hit outside of deer season.
Evidently, someone who has a calendar, also speaks Deer, and puts out the warning each year. Freakin tree huggers.

haha Well I was coming back from Auburn with my mom, we hit a deer going down Route 38, sent it clear across 5 lanes (we were on the shoulder, there are two lanes, plus a turn lane, and then the other shoulder) when we hit it. Totalled our 2000 Expedtion. What a nice truck that was.

Just be thankful you weren't this (http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/jun/26/bicyclist-going-45-mph-hits-bear-boulder-county/) guy! It could have turned out a lot worse for him!

I had my own turkey incident.I was on my motorcycle at Bear Mtn,NY when a turkey flew accross the road right in front of me.Thankfully,it had enough altitude for me to duck at the last second. It grazed the back of my helmet, smashing my face into the gas tank, and injuring the underside of the turkey.Just a little lower and I would have been taken right off the bike,as I was doing about 65mph.
Deer are a real problem here in NJ.There's actually a lot of them in the section of Clifton that I live in.Dead deer are a common sight in some areas of Paterson, which is a decent sized city.

We have a dual problem in Colorado. Deer in the city is annoying. They are usually accompanied by Mountain Lions and Black Bears... I've had two "close encounters" with Mountain Lions...

"This bear looked at me with a look of terror on his face and sort of made a noise," said Egan. "I looked at him with a look of terror and we went, 'aaaahhhhh.'"
That scene must have looked funny. Like something out of a cartoon. LOL
Back on that topic. For me I was driving around night time and heading into a highway heading south in San Diego on an onramp. And just out of the blue a dog came running out. I never even saw this thing, it just took me by surprise.
So as much as I love animals, I wasn't about to stop and cause even more of an accident if the cars behind me slammed onto me. So I just drove straight into it. It didn't give me much time to react. It was practically in front of me and too late. I was already getting close to highway speed at that point.
This was when I was still driving an old '76 VW Beetle, back in 2001. Good thing I never saw much damage from the front bumper when that happened.
As for that dog, well probably had a few broken bones and didn't know if it lived or not. It was a Labrador sized dog, so it's nothing like a puny one. It's fairly good size. Dumb stray dog jumping out into traffic like that and at night too.
I don't know if you consider that wildlife, but it was still an animal.

Driving Tractor-Trailers, I've only ever hit one deer. I took the shoulder and missed him, he dropped his head and tried to run underneath the truck. Took out a tire and a mudflap. And, oh, yeah. His head.

At least the deer are dumb animals that don't know any better.
Saturday night at around 9:30 I was westbound on IL rt 38( Roosevelt Rd just east of Wheaton IL) when a car blew threw the light at at shopping center and made a hard right to also go west, apprently someone took advantage of keys left in the ignition at the White Castle at the shopping center to hop in and take off because the (apparent)driver came running out into traffic, promptly tripping in a pothole and face planting in my lane about 15 feet in front of me.
The fact I'd tapped the brakes when the car came out and the fact that no one was in the next lane is the key reason this stupid mother ****er did not become street pizza then and there.
To make matters even better I check my rearview and dumba$$ has picked himself up and is running down the lane with other traffic swerving around him, I guess getting your car jacked on you and nearly getting turned to street pizza once was not tempting fate enough.

But, they are so cute.
Actually, you see one cross the road in front of you in Summer, watch for the fawns. The first one crosses after the mother, the second comes flying across just in front of you, and, if she had triplets, that's the one you will hit for sure.
Years back, a herd of 12 tried to run across Gratiot Road during rush hour. Only five made it. The road was closed for hours to clean up the tangled of smashed cars.
Photo is one of the pair living in the 1/2 acre small pasture where there is lots of brush and weeds to hide in. I see them every day playing in the open area. They will be gone once they are big enough to jump over the fence.

They're not only cute, but they taste good! Especially with a good quality steak sauce! Or in a nice stew. And if you put the bullet through the skull, they die quickly and without pain - and it doesn't ruin any of that yummy meat!
Hey, maybe we could give that army of homeless people bows and arrows and solve two problems at once! They might be able to help out with the Prairie Rats, too!

I have had deer burgers before. They're pretty good, have a sweet taste to them. Not sure, though, if they're as good as the local sides of beef we get from a farmer friend of ours.
I hate fall and spring: that seems to be the worst time for deer crossings in the Peoria area, and usually at night. I've only encountered them once...on, of all places, a road on the bluff in East Peoria. Soon thereafter, the Nova got Silverstar Headlamps, and after that, cheap Cibie-style Fogs. I try to stay pretty alert, but...they do move fast.
I've heard mixed reviews about the deer whistles they sell: some swear by 'em, some say they're a waste.

You have to be careful with deer whistles. If you put 'em on backwards, they follow you everywhere!
My in-laws have deer in their yard all the time. You know, they really are 180 pound rodents on the hoof...

Two black bear cubs run in front of me at night on a wet, freshly paved mountain road. Almost impossible to see them. I hit one of them with the front axle beam. This was a COE truck and there was quite a commotion going on beneath me after I stopped. I was afraid to get out. I grabbed a flashlight, opened the door, and leaned down to see what I could see. Then it ran out from under the front, ran down the road and around the curve, still in the road and yelling the whole way.
Once I was crewing for a rally team. The car was in a 4-wheel drift and broad-sided a deer at high speed. The intestines ended up splattered inside the car where the rear seat used to be. It was my job at the next service area to clean out that mess. I could just barely keep from gagging.

Really, crewing for a rally team? that's pretty cool. Evo, Celica, or Impreza?

Mine got the bumper, after cooler, radiator (from underneath) & misaligned (slightly bent) the right front wheel... not good for tire wear. Fortunately he missed the grill and hood. Still 6K worth of damage. Not to mention that I was picking animal parts off the wagon (car hauler) for weeks.
Have a sparkling holiday,
