Here is the concern on all this...
Will this be kept within the particular sect of Islam or will it cover all of Islam? For example, much like the Christian faith, there are different tiers of belief. Some are rather liberal, adapting western styles with just the faith of allah, while others are hardcore. Is it really wise to allow them to set up their own parallel law system where in theory all Muslims are subject to a law system they may not fully agree with in a otherwise free nation? I mean we aren't just talking about prayer and repentance here for violations of their law... we are talking jail time/death for offenses depending on on the interpretation of that sect.
If it is kept in their sect,their beliefs and everyone is ok with it, then who cares. My concern is that they end up trying and punishing someone under that form of law against their will.

We used to call that "lynching." Justice is a function of a healthy society, not of individuals or "groups" within that society.

What it boils down too, is the fact, that Muslims, do not see a "separation of church and state" like westerners do. The concept of the state, being separated from the church, is abhorrent to them. To them, the "church IS, the state" or should be the state.
The use of Sharia Law, is incremental. As the muslims start gaining more and more political strength in Europe, you can expect to start seeing the push to use Sharia Law for EVERYONE.
After all, Islam is the religion of peace....

First of all, that judge is an idiot. :mad: The potential for Sharia to be abused by male Muslims is real and great. After all, aren't most British Muslims rejecting the mainstream way of life and its values (such as equality for women)?
I'm surprised things here (Canada) aren't as bad as in Europe, considering we're far too liberal with those who choose not to live our way of life. Oh, wait, political correctness dictates that Canadian culture should be a mixture of foreign cultures that don't have to share our values. So much for years of established British/European culture in Canada...
We recently had a case where a Muslim teenage daughter was murdered by her fundamentalist father because she refused to comply with her religion's demands, such as wearing the hijab. Why didn't he just stay in Pakistan if he hates our way of life? What gets me though, is that Muslims who wrote in to newspapers (for the letters to the editor section) said that Islam had nothing to do with this murder. :confused: Gosh, was it because she was playing loud music?
It's the same when a Muslim is arrested under terrorism charges. They are the first ones to defend the suspect and claim to be fighting for everyone's rights along with his, but yet they are suspiciously silent when it comes to other cases involving the rights of those charged under the law.
