...and when you die, they come round your house and confiscate whatever fire arms you had. You cannot leave them to your heirs.
On the other hand, archery and the use of crossbows is very popular.

There's a much easier procedure:
Go to Sporting Goods store, obtain baseball bat.
Locate armed Police Officer, wait until he/she isn't paying attention.
Walk up non-chalanty behind said Officer, use baseball bat to inflict head injury sufficient to cause un-conciousness.
Obtain firearm from holster.
This also has the added benefit about teaching a Government official the truth about what freedom from tyranny really means!

It's alright for the Canadians.
They really have no national enemies. Their closest neighbor is the only remote threat, and it is not far behind in falling down the Liberal Slide.
Has Canada ever had foreign soldiers on its soil, in a wartime setting?
Even as years and generations pass, lessons are learned from having to shoot the enemy from your front walk. These lessons are being forgotten by some in our country, but are still remembered by most.

It could get rid of some of the bureaucracy involved, but in general I don't see anything wrong with the first half of that planche (background checks etc) - it seems to be pretty much the same way things function over here ("over here" being Norway, a country with possibly even more guns per capita than the USA).

You're describing the state of localised translations skills purrfectly.
You yourself must bang off just right, huh?

Uhm, am I missing something here? Are you the type of stumbling twerp instead of the gliding strain? You couldn't define liberal were your life dependent on it.
Remote?? I fend off yer dim yankeedom daily in our temperate belt up here!

Uhm, yes, you (you must be feeling much better learning this mild tidbit...)

Yes, three times.
Once when Benedict Arnold lead a force to Quebec hoping to sieze it for Washington, again during the War of 1812, and then the Fenian Raids.
There was also the incident of an American agent provocateur stirring up trouble during the 1835 Rebellion, but he got drunk with the rest of the rabble and was apprehended tout suite.
