While I don't favor one candidate or the other, I do feel that his point was missed. Everyone heard, 'Your kids should speak Spanish' and they stopped listening. The audience wasn't sure what to think, either.

I feel his real point was, American children should speak multiple languages, just like Europeans do.

That has it's merits. And initial reactions aside, should people really be mad, because they are encouraged to be smarter? It's one thing to be told that you're dumb, but everyone can tolerate positive encourangement.

He didn't say "American children should speak multiple languages" (I speak Canadian, eh!), he said "Your kids should speak Spanish." Why not Japanese? German? Lilliputian? He's pandering to Hispanics, since most people don't believe they're going to vote for them. Kind of like when Algore gave a "speech" in Spanish (actually read it off a teleprompter, pronounced it phonetically, and mangled the language).

He knew which sound bite would get out, and he knows those "Georgia rednecks" ain't gonna vote for him anyway, so he perpetuates two DNC talking points at once: Pandering to the Spanish-speakers, and the "if you don't vote for the Obama, you're racist..."
