I first met Rocky in 1991 when he ran the "One Lap of America" car rally formerly known as the "Cannonball Run". He entered a Porsche 911 Targa that had been cut and extended to be a four-door.

Rocky was quite a character, very charming, lots fun to be around. He said "Money not everything, just 99 percent.”

In the early 60's he was a champion wrestler. People were afraid to sell ice cream in Harlem. So he got a truck, taped a newspaper article about his wrestling on the side to scare away robbers, and had then had the entire neighborhood to himself to sell ice cream.

He later founded Benihana, the Japanese steakhouse chain, and made the first hot-air balloon flight across the Pacific Ocean.

He died of cancer on Thursday.
