Is there any steam era route in the f/l that the big boys and challengers could run on?

if you haven't figured out by now "f/l" is short for "File Library" and refers specifically to the one here at train-sim.com. While there are plenty of routes for you to run a Big-Boy on, Sherman Hill does not yet exist, which was the Big-Boys primary stomping grounds (really, when they rolled by it felt like they were stomping they had so much weight:p [all 1,208,750 lb (604.3t) tons of them]) 3Dtrains is/was working on Sherman Hill, but in the modern diesel era...

Maybe Sherman Hill was one but there are other areas that the Big Boy was used. That is what I am saying. I have just read a book describing some of the locations....

Since Sherman Hill route isn't around, you could always try anything that the Union Pacific traversed. That will at least give you a lot more leeway as to where you can go. But me, almost any western route in the United States will do. :D Or you can even visit the eastern regions.
Either way, you don't really need to confine yourself with the real actual regions. This is a simulator, even some of the Union Pacific's current engines now go as far east as the east coast these days.

That's very true. Railfanning the CSX New York to Chicago line near Syracuse I see almost as many UP units as CSX

heck, I just had a solid UP lashup of two AC4400CWs and a SD70M up here last week (see the photos section) all the way up here in NH... too bad the steam-town route hasn't been modeled... Then you could plausibly run a big-boy... :D But whenever I have an urge to run a big-boy, or any other large UP steam for that matter, I run on either SLI's Seligman Subdivision, or on the Rattlesnake Desert Route....
The UP Rollins Pass route, which is in the F/L, would be appropriate for UP big steam.
Historically, the Big Boys spent most of their careers between Cheyenne WY and Ogden UT, which would include the Wasatch Mountains and Sherman Hill. They also made runs down past Denver, so the Rollins Pass route would be plausible.
Don't forget that the Big Boys and Challengers (and many, many others) were built at ALCO in Schenechtady, NY, and during delivery, would have run over the NY Central Water Level route on their way to UP. But that would probably be dead-in-tow, I believe they were set up for service when they were delivered to Council Bluffs or Omaha.

I appoligize for my statement about UP Big Boy locations. When I checked again they were Alleganys (2-8-8-4)'s not Big Boys....
You need some Wyoming routes....

Alleghenies are 2-6-6-6's not 2-8-8-4's. Those are considered the most powerful steam engines ever built, even more so than the Big Boys'. Check it out here (http://www.steamlocomotive.com/allegheny/). The 2-8-8-4s are called Yellowstones (http://www.steamlocomotive.com/yellowstone/).
