I have a ASUS motherboard with the intel Pentium D (Dual Core) 3.40Ghz, I have 3.0gigs of RAM memory and i want to go to 4gigs of memory total, so my question is am i able to go to 4 gigs even though i have a 3.40ghz computer? I heard somewhere that you cant go over what the intel/amd chip is which mine is 3.40ghz.
You'll need to get the manual for your board. Your board specs should list maximum allowable memory. If you don't have one, go to the manufacturer's site and download one.

Ok what it saids on the side of the box the motherboard came in on the memory part:
Memory
Dual channel memory architecture
4 x 240-pin DIMM sockets support max. 8GB
DDR2 800/667/533 ECC and non-ECC memory
Native DDR2 800 Support
Intel MPT
ASUS Hyper Path3
Im going to guess on the part where it saids 4 x 240-pin DIMM sockets support max. 8 GB means that i can have up to 8gigs of memory on the motherboard?

Keep in mind that Windows XP 32-bit can access only about 3.25 gb of ram. So, installing more than 4 gb is a waste. And also keeping in mind that MSTS-bin seems to use ram more efficiently than default MSTS. Search the MSTS-bin forum here to find out about the command line parameter for ram.

If I'm not mistaken Vista 32 bit will only utilize up to 4 GB RAM. You would have to go with a 64 bit OS (XP or Vista) to utilize the full 8 GB your MB can handle.
