I have been enjoying this route because it is so much like the real thing. What makes it good are the ambient sounds that have been placed in the route. The brake squeel up and down the hills really brings home reality. I have been watching videos of those routes and it really makes a difference. You need a really big consist to enjoy it.

What are your thoughts on the water sound in the canyons, where it is pretty constant in places? I'm thinking I should cut back on that.

Not to mention those howling wolves. Run that thing in the middle of the night and see if you can still keep running it without looking over your shoulders.:p:D

PS.

Don, keep all those sounds. It's just the way it should be. The route just won't be the same without them. ;) Keep up the excellent work of such a marvelous route.

I live an hour from Rollins Pass. Leave the water sound in! It really does sound like that! As a matter of fact, those streams start up in the 13,000 to 14,000 feet level, and drop to the 6000 foot level of the surrounding plains in a distance of 30 or 40 miles, tops. Some of those streams are only 2 to 3 feet deep, and if you go fishing in one, it's hard to stay on your feet! You would lose a kid in them in a heartbeat, they'd be a mile or so downstream before you could catch up to them, if you ever did... I saw a dog jump into Clear Creek one time by Idaho Springs, and the poor thing paddled his little heart out and couldn't keep up with the current, ended up 500 yards downstream before he could get to the bank.

Yeah, keep the sounds the way they are. That's what makes the route so unique. I'd even increase the squeel sound volume a bit. I'd rather move the squeel sounds to the consists and put it in there and make it work when the brakes start coming on. Has anyone done this yet ????

@ Don:
your signature is one of the best news in the past three years!

Thanks for upgrading the Rollins/Moffat route, which is still my favourite route after all the years.
Donīt ask what it is, but it has something special, that the others not have.

It will continue to be a steam era route, but the plan is to extend it to Craig and also to Glenwood Springs. On the construction version, I've fixed track database problems (which are not a problem with the version you have but prevented rebuilding) which means signals had to be removed and will be added back as a final step. It will have carspawn with old time moving vehicles. It will have telegraph poles, better speed signs, visible mileposts, new stations with station names on them, and wood trestles to replace inaccurate metal ones. It will no longer be necessary to throw switches on the pass to stay on the mainline. Probably more variety in ground textures, and unneeded files will be removed to cut down on the size of what will still be a very large route.

It will take a while.

That sounds truly great to my ears!
Iīm awaiting patiently the different releases, but please (like the others told already):
let the wolves alive, also the farm dog and the other sounds. They belong to the route,
and everytime i hear the wolves, i have to smile a little bit. :p

The roosters are fun too. The sounds will stay. Too bad no deer sounds, but they don't say much. Around the house I once heard a doe coughing, and fawns will cry when hungry or in trouble.

How about Elk? Ever heard one in rut?

You gotta hear this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VHxRoEE5bE)!

Yes, I almost mentioned elk. I've heard them bugling in RMNP and behind the house, but since it only happens in the fall, I decided against it.

DW,

I notice deer along the route, how come there are none on the tracks so I can blow the whistle and they jump off ? Could be added....
