Hi im still having a problem with MSTS freezing randomly. I have an AMD athalon duo 2.1 ghz processor with 870 mb RAM, nvidia 8500gt and vista 32. I never had this problem on my old computer. The game will be doing fine and then it freezes when im on the external cam views. I have installed the latest driver for my card, Bin 1.8 etc... does anyone else have this problem or can anyone offer an idea of whats up thanks?
870 MB RAM? With Vista?
If those numbers are right you may want to add more to that one. At least somewhere around 2 Gigs worth. And as I know it, Vista is a resource hog, so you really will need more.

I think the minimum requirement to run Vista is at least 1 gig of Ram. Anything less, you got a very slow poke machine.

Sounds like a heating problem. Any idea what your temperatures are? You might try to move the computer away from a wall, heat source, or a window with the sun coming in, or even putting a fan behind it. Or try it late at night when the temp drops in the room, and see if it makes any difference. AMD's are famous for overheating problems. And, yeah, you really do need more RAM. How did you end up with 870 MB anyway? A 512M and a 256? would be 768... Are you sure you're reading that right?

870 MB of ram could be right if he's using a shared video memory from motherboard with only 128 for video card. It should be about 872 and 128 = 1 gig. That's my guess and I think he might be using a laptop instead of desktop model.

i have 3 gigs of memory, i read my specs wrong, its fastmachine. I'll buy the theory of overheating though

If I play MSTS on my Compaq laptop, it will freeze up, and I have to let it cool down before I can play again. Athlon...

Get one of those liquid cooled systems and you won't have any overheating problems. And since you did mention it's a desktop, you have plenty of space for doing that.

Not if it's a desktop retail machines, they packed everything so tight and leave you with little room to work with. I doubt if you can even add the water cooling system to those type of machines.

Which I'm glad I never purchase those fully completed retail machines. I always build mine on my own custom specs. So that way, if I need to expand on it, I can do so without any problems. But that's me- a do it yourself. And I've been doing it since the 8088CPUs were around. Others might not be so computer hardware savvy.

I have an HP tx1000z series laptop with an AMD Turion dual core TL-52 running at 1.6 GHz, with 1 GB (1024 MB) of RAM installed. I suppose HP wanted the most video memory, so I got 896 MB of RAM, and 128 MB on the integrated graphics chip.
I usually end up with less than 512 MB to work with, which leaves me outta luck if i wanna play MSTS on the go!
I also have the overheating problem, but it happens only when it gets so hot at the vent that the plastic should be melting
I guess the only reason I have it is because my grandma bought it for me, so I really can't complain!

When I purchased my Dell laptop last year, I have Vista on it and I heard it is a memory hog so, I ordered the 2 gigs of ram right from Dell so I don't have to bother with it later. As for the cooling problem, they sell notebook cooling plates with 3 or 4 fans that plugs into your USB for laptops to help keep it cool. It's suppose to exhaust the heat from the bottom out. They usually sell them for $10 and up for different sizes laptops. They do sell them just about at any retail stores where they sell laptops.

I see in your initial post you said you updated your drivers. HAve you run the mprofile.exe in your root MSTS folder? I have a dual core 4200+ overclocked along with a slightly overclocked x1950pro, only 1gig of corsair xms memory and any time I update my vid drivers, but foget to run the mprofile.exe, i have problems.
MSTS freezes are not always indicative of heat, though don't know what you got going on in your case. I build my own machines and use multiple 128mm fans for intake and outflow, aftermarket type heatsinf/fans, etc. How is your rig set up? Enough cool air flow both inward and outward? There are many utillities that can help you display your case, mobo, hdd temps. Could be worth a look, but try mprofile.exe first fo rthe heck of it. It's helped me a few times.
