View Full Version : Microsoft’s new OS called “Mojave”
Microsoft exposes new OS to noobs.

Pretty much backs up what a lot of us has been saying about the “I heard this and I heard that” BS from Vista critics that really have no clue to begin with.

Talk to Ryan Rasmussen about how well Vista 64 works with programs... :)

Why would I have to? I’ve been using Vista 64/SP1 for a while now, no problems here.

Vista 64bit is what I've been using and I've had no issues at all with it. Much faster than any XP-based computer I've ever used.

I will attempt to get Vista 64 for MSTS-X and keep my XP3 system for MSTS. Simply because I don't want to get rid of my reliable computer.. But I'd like to run MSTS-X in the best operating environment possible.

Why is there something wrong with using MSTS and Vista 64/SP1? I run a dual boot machine with XP/SP3 and Vista Ultimate 64/SP1; XP/SP3 is no more reliable than Vista 64.

As long we are on the subject of Vista, I have a little problem with my MSTS on Laptop with Vista 32 bits. I used to be able to close or exit MSTS without any problems. After I installed the SP1 for Vista, my game locks up or crashes upon exiting it. I have to use the taskmanager to close it. Is there a fix or a remedy for this?

I have the same problem, but on a desktop, along with seriously annoying troubles with the Big Boy on my Vista-running computer. This isn't the first time I've downloaded this locomotive but the first with Vista. I keep forgetting that I really have no use for it but it's the thought of driving it that gets me. Anyways, here is what's wrong. I tried removing it from my MSTS file system and it was still there when I loaded the consist editor. I even went as far as uninstalling MSTS, and deleting the remaining game folders. Guess what? It was still there when I reinstalled it. It also felt like the stuff I tried adding to it didn't work (bug fixes, patches, missing sounds, etc.) I know you guys are a lot smarter than me when it comes to this stuff, any ideas?
PS
I already tried contacting NALW tech support. Their email address is no longer valid. Let's just pretend that this a random tech inquiry, given that this isn't the only file that I've had this problem with. I've thought of a fix but I want to hear what some people have to say first.

try running it as "administrator" that fixes your problem...
Including running the installer....
the problem is caused by UAC (user access control which does a better job of securing administrator privileges than xp)
this has all been documented before...
FWIW I run Vista/64 with no problems....
we changed our email address to nalw2004@cox.net back in 2004 after the "skids" bombed the old one...
Why should we be forced to buy new operating (and I use the term operating loosely) systems every other year? The market share that MS commands allows them to dictate to everyone what will be used and sold. Apple anybody?
Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. I am running 95, 98 and XP on my systems. I tend to give the oldest machine to the youngest child as learning tool. I just want a stable OS that does not have tons of portals for hackers to get through. "Been looking into Linux lately he says as he rambles on....."

Who’s forcing you to buy a new operating system every other year?
Its not that I'm forced to by one every other year, its the fact that MS keeps coming out with new ones and drops support of old ones so quickly. Since they have the majority of the market, most software vendors are geared to their OS. So if I want to run the latest games etc., I'll need the newest OS.
I guess my beef is that the new one will have just as many bugs and problems as their recent roll outs and they can get away with shoddy work simply because they have the lion's share of the market. Like I said later in the thread, I was just venting against MS.

XP is over 7 years old and Vista is about a year and a half...
That's not every other year last time I checked...
Quit drinking the Mak-in-trash cool-aide :)

Thanks Chuck, that did the trick! BTW, I found something that might put UAC in quiet mode of you are tired of two popups from Vista machine;

I have got it on my Vista machine and it works like a charm! ;)

Now, if you could just find a way to get rid of DRM.

Just a couple of questions:
1) Run what exactly as an Admin? It seems like you're mentioning more than one thing.
2) UAC is causing the "file sticking" behavior?
I really don't want to get on your nerves or anything with this. Thanks.

Easy. People stop pirating stuff - DRM goes away.

People still pirate stuff. M$ offloads the problem onto it's legitimate users, for which DRM and WGA are far more of an inconvenience than they are to the Pirates. Last time M$ updated WGA, it took the jolly roger crowd less than 24 hours to crack it. Less time than it took for legitimate users who had legitimate licenses to repair their Windows installs that were locked down by a bug in the WGA software... Not to mention that WGA and OGA are spyware, and to an extent, so is DRM.
So, do you trust M$ with your information just because they sold you a copy of Windows? ER, sorry, they didn't actually sell it to you, they're just letting you use it for a certain amount of money...
