on a about 5 consists i have run on raton III, in the explore route mode, the screen freezes after about 10 seconds. these few consists have either mlt or strealines locomotives leading. these same consists work fine on other routes. any ideas as to what's going on?
my screen resolution is 1024x768 if that has anything to do with it.
thanks,

First:
Do you have MSTS Bin installed.
Second:
Do you have Trainstore.
I have found out that with this function, the results of screen freezing, do not accure as much as before when the consists are heavy with non default equipment.

i do not have either bin or trainstore installed. i only have newroads and xtracks installed in msts.
from what i have been reading, i think trainstore may help msts. i have downloaded trainstore and in the process of reading posts about it.
if trainstore becomes a problem for me, is it easy to uninstall without causing any problems to msts.
thanks,

MSTS Bin is also, well needed just as much as Trainstore is needed. :)

thanks for your help csx.
i did a little experimenting and this is what i found:
the trains that freeze, are 50-60 car manifests with at least 10 different types of cars/wagons (all different paywares). there were at least 3 lead locomotives of 2 different types.
all the rest of the trains i run that don't freeze are 3 different types:
-110 car unit coal trains (exact same types of cars) and 5-6 of the same types of locomotives
-60-100 car (5 types of cars from of the same payware) with 3-4 locomotives
-75-110 car doublestacks (5 types of cars from 3dts) with 4-5 locomotives
the trains that are freezing have more variety in different types of cars and locomotives. could that be stressing msts and causing the freezes???

I've changed all the default consists. Have large 100 car mixed from everyone and no problems, I'm using Bin. I don't know how anyone could live without it. It changes your whole sim experience

You may need to get an update soundcfg.dat file. CPU's with Soundboard sound cards are notorious for causing the screen to freeze--yes, it is the sound not the video card that does this! You can get info on the .dat file in the sound section of the forum.

thanks for the suggestion oak. i did a search with that soundcfg.dat file and stumbled upon an intersting thread in 2007. another member was having the same freezes, although it was on the mlt's cascade crossing.
he too had been discussing this soundcfg.dat file but decided to adjust the overall display slider down -1- notch. that adjustment worked for him so i thought i would try it.
i also adjusted my "overall display quality" slider -1- notch to the left of "best graphics," towards "best performance." so far, that has solved my problem as i ran -1- of the manifests that was "freezing-up" and it ran fine.......
i'll make few more new consists and see if this cures my "raton freezes."
i do remember that most of my crashes occured when notching out the throttle or pausing/esc when the bell was ringing...........so i'll search more on the soundcfg.dat file. thanks again,
