G&W has been busy lately. They just bought out Maryland Midland a few months ago.

They seem to be on a roll.
I think they will hang onto the OHCR painted power for now but anything in primer will get the G&W orange.
Even the Commonwealth Railway (former Rail Link asset) had their two motors (GP16 & CF7) repainted after receiving two G&W painted SW1500's, but they were in ragged shape to begin with. After painting both engines had oil down the hood by the end of the first week and had still yet to have logos applied.
I have not seen any MM locos repainted yet. They kept good care of their units. Of cousrse its been about 5 months since I've seen any. MM actually had made an offer to CSX for their Hanover Sub (Glyndon to Hanover to Hifield Summit). I doubt CSX was interested in selling. I miss the origional "speed lettering" of their earlier days.

Got to love the GWI system :)
I really like their paint scheme the best.
IMO they do one heck of a job turning railroad companies around.
For instence, the SLR here in Maine.

I'm sure the crews hate the black hand rails... i'm sure thats a pain in the @$$ on a hot summer day... then again, all the more reason to follow FRA and wear gloves.

Both of the SW1500's were broken about month after being placed in service. 1552 shown here, dropped 3 cylinders, the 1551, began to drop load and later a cylinder. Image was shot roughly 15 minutes after they were spotted on CWRY rail after being picked up from the NS interchange in Suffolk, VA.

Black handrails? Ouch! I can feel the heat through the gloves! Specially when needing to stand there on the steps, holding on, to get off and throw the switch.
Bet they are hard to notice during the night.
and, you have given me a repaint idea. :)

id rather seem the bought out and kept active under the G&W name then see them go bankrupt and be abandon.
Atleast G&W will keep the other RR's reporting marks and not just slap G&W onto everything.

As a former engineer of ten years for the Willamette & Pacific/Portland and Western RR I can assure you the G&W team will create new traffic for the property. 13 years after taking the old Southern Pacific/BNSF branches I now see traffic that didn't exist in '93. It's not unusual to see 80 car log trains moving on the system and new Grain trains going to newly built ethenol plants. Even in bad economic years the traffic increased over previous years or at least held steady. They're a good RR who seems to be able to do what the Class 1's couldn't, namely get new traffic and more of the existing traffic. And I agree their paint scheme is one of the best out there.

Bill I agree.
the G&W system took over the St. Lawrence & Atlantic, and has done a wonderful job bringing in traffic flow.
Right here in Auburn, Maine they have a Intermodal terminal, transload facilities, and all that good stuff. I remember when the SLR didn't haul much traffic when they first took over the ex CN line. now that G&W purchased them, they have amazing long hauls. Still two trains in 12 hours, but it's still good.
As for eating up the little guys. Actually they still are considered little. While the paint is the same, they still have their own reporting marks, company name, and class titles.
