HI. For the last two days my keyboard and mouse have been acting up on me. At random times my num lock, caps lock and scroll lock will flash several times and my mouse wont work at this time also. Sometimes it locks up the mouse and keyboard and neither will work and I have to reset. My mouse and keyboard are connected to a PS2 (I think thats what its called) to USB adaptor, since neither my mouse nor keyboard is USB. I checked the device manager and didnt see any device conflicts and I dont want to reinstall windows. Also, I havent installed anything that I think would cause a conflict or a virus but who knows. Any ideas to what I can do to troubleshoot?

Get another keyboard and mouse to replace it and see what happens. Reinstalling windows will not solve your problem. You could have a virus, did you run a scan on your system?

Sounds like Windows is having intermittent trouble recognizing the keyboard and mouse via the PS to USB adapter, since the keyboard is not a native USB keyboard. This is probably a driver issue, so reinstalling Windows is overkill.
Why not directly connect via standard PS2 ports for mouse and keyboard? This would simplify things and eliminate what are really unecessary converters!

Or, if you're running Windows Live Messenger Plus with a Key Flasher script, that may be causing it. I had that happen to me.. Then I set it to flash like a crossing. :D

No its not a virus, thats the first thing I did was check for a virus. I didnt say I was going to reinstall windows, I said Id hate to have to reinstall windows, meaning as a last resort. Longiron, I did not directly connect the keyboard and mouse because there are no PS2 ports on my computer, if there was I would have done so and wouldnt have bought a $15 adaptor otherwise. Im not stupid. I have some advise for you guys, instead of assuming everyone is stupid and rolling your eyes, why not say something worth-while or helpful for once. While there were some bits of helpfulness in there, the rolling of the eyes icon is uncalled for and "Why not directly connect via standard PS2 ports for mouse and keyboard? This would simplify things and eliminate what are really unecessary converters!" is assuming, but you know I love to buy unnecessary things for my computer, its sort of a hobby of mine. I got the problem worked out now so thanks for alot of the same.
Im not Referring to BNSFfan.

On these forums, some people barely know how to turn on a computer, other's have built one from scratch. You didn't indicate how technically astute you were (when you seemed not to know what a PS2 port was), I just assumed (wrongly) that you were not familiar with a computer.
BTW, it's a very rare computer that doesn't have a PS2 port. Virtually every mobo and laptop has this basic connection. I'm surprised yours does not.

Hi. I didnt know if it was called a PS2 or what. I find it funny that you use context clues to make assumptions to my computer knowledge, since as you said I didnt give my full background in computers, a blood sample and all prior convictions and school background, you had to make the assumption that Im an idiot. Even though, I said I looked in device manager and there wasnt any conflicts...oh that isnt above someone who cant even turn on a computer? I assumed it was called a PS2 port and I was correct but still Im an adiot. Last but not least you assumed my computer has PS2 ports even though it doesnt, which is odd and is rare a newer computer wouldnt, but it isnt impossible, so my main point is poeple on here jump the gun and are quick to give the cute, roll eyes icon and to be talked down to.
When I feel someone doesnt have an idea what theyre talking about I either explain in detail or dont respond at all. I dont like to add to the problem in this community of people getting jumped onto but I wont have post after post making assumptions, if I should have done my homework and checked into driver errors ect. then someone saying that I should plug in my PS2 mouse to my PS2 port should do theres. A moderator shouldnt be answering the biggest part of his replies with eye rolling, I dont know if its a power trip or what but if anything your job is to moderate, not add to the problem and whether you think you were part of the problem or not, isnt up to you and would be bias. Moderate that.
