View Full Version : Two suggestions for RSDL (Constructive Criticism!)

Don't know if this has already been suggested. If yes, my apologies.
First, when choosing an engine in the editor it should appear without a driver in the cab. Only when one places the driver with the appropriate function should a driver appear in the cab. This way there would be only one driver per train and not several drivers as in DMU trains.
In a dual-cab engine the driver should be changed when one changes cabs with CTRL+-, that is, appear in the cab one changes to.
Second, head and tail lamps should not be automatic or semi-automatic as is at the moment. At the moment this works quite erratic and looks wrong especially on German engines where head and tail lights have to be on all the time, even by day. Please, provide a function that lets the user change head and tail lights by hand!
Thanks
Burghard :)

Good suggestions, Burghard !
It would also be a good idea for passenger carriages to be empty when stored in sidings, to be filled with them when either a service loco is coupled on to a static passenger carriages consist or manually loaded with them at the station it starts from. ;)

If you use my RS_Kickstart program (in the file library), it has the ability to remove drivers from the cabs so that you get DMUs without a driver at each end. You can also use it to remove passengers from passenger carriages so that sidings are not filled with lost people.
Obviously not as good as having this done automatically or with a keypress, but at least it looks more authentic.

But how do you fill the then empty carriages with passengers prior to the assembled train's departure and put a driver into it's loco's cab ? ;)
Ideally carriages and Locos cabs should be empty by default, a driver being placed into it's cab and the carriages filled with passengers when the #1 is being pressed to select the service to be driven.
Is there a RSBin George somewhere ? ;)

A, dynamic, at this location, fill/empty the cars with passengers or freight would be awesome. In my case, I'd love to see the coal gondolas go into the loading tunnel empty and come out full (complete with physics changes). But then I'd need pacesetter/AI controls cause I can't keep the train at a steady 1.5MPH to save my life even without the physics changes and instantaneous brakes.

You know, you have a great idea there, Otto, are you listening? Model railroaders have done that for years! What if you had a loading tunnel with loaded cars spotted inside. You push a string of empty cars in, uncouple, go out, change the (hidden) switch, and go back inside and get the loaded cars! It could work for a lot of different industries, and in TS, we can drive through walls, so the loaded cars could easily be hidden in a building under terrain, etc!

More to the point, are RSDL listening, they have the RS source code such functions have to be coded in ? :D
Take care, O t t o.

Hi,
I can not hear a thing over my Madness album, need to keep my headphones on to drown out the noise from the air con and server machine.
We do read though, and yes some good ideas, we have discussed this issues and solutions here at RS towers.

Derek

OK guys, I'm fine with the comments aimed at RSDL and myself.
The more people get involved will only mean another locked thread.
regards
Derek
