For the past 3-4 weeks (1 1/2 of those I was away on vacation), my computer has been shutting down unexpectedly, as if the house has experienced a power outage. It usually seems to happen when I am doing work (ie. copying/deleting photos, e-mail, music, etc.) but never happens when I am away from the computer.
I have run a virus scan, but it gave me a clean bill of health.
Any thoughts, suggestion would be GREATLY appreciated, since this problem is starting to get a little on my nerves.

Is your PC a laptop? If so, it sounds like you have an over temp problem and need to clean out any filters and/or heat sinks. Although, I suspect the same could be true for a desktop. In either case, let Google become your friend and help you find the instructions on how to do the cleaning.

If it's not an overheating problem due to dusty heatsinks/fans then your power supply might be the culprit. I had a computer which was acting similar. Nothing worked until I bought a new power supply. I personally use Seasonic supplies in all my builds as a result of that experience. They're reliable, stable, and generally much quieter than the OEM supplies.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I will give dusting and trying to get more air circulation to try to get more cooling. If that doesn't work, I will definetely try a new power supply.
On that note, jtr1962 where do you normally buy your Seasonic power supplies?
Thanks again for the help!

I check both Newegg and eBay for the supply I want, and then buy from whomever is selling it for less. Generally it's eBay by a few dollars, but sometimes Newegg has good deals.
