View Full Version : MK2 No Splash Screens

In light of every thing else going on, this may not be that important, but I did notice that using the target line: "C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator\RailSim.exe" -NoSplashScreens on my Shortcut icon doesn't work anymore.

When I used that target line with MK1, I got a black screen while the Sim was going through its initial loading, and some community members felt that it shortened the loading time.

However with MK2 and the same target line, I get the normal splash screens while loading the Sim.

It doesn't seem to work with RailSim.exe, but it does with RailSimEditor.exe and it really loads the game a lot faster, since it doesn't check for the DVD.

Yes, the RailSimEditor.exe loads RS faster with the -NoSplashScreens command line switch in it's Desktop Shortcut, not having to pause to display the splash screens, but still requires the RS DVD in it's drive, unless you use a CD/DVD drive emulator !

Another worthless font of misinformation. RailSimEditor.exe does not require a disc in the drive.

Hack,

You are 100% right. I have been laboring under a false impression - driven no doubt by several posts I have read concerning having to have the disc in the drive to run and people worrying about the disc wearing out etc etc etc

I just did a test and RailSimEditor.exe does run without the disc as well as the Asset editor.

I have now taken my disc out and placed it safely back in its container.

I'm not 100% certain that the no-disc was intentional, Dick, but I'll take what they give. It's amazing the loading speed when the disc doesn't have to be constantly verified. If a bug, I'm hoping RSDL place that one at the bottom of their list. ;)

My Mark-2 Update RailSim.exe still requires the RS DVD in it's drive.

Anybody else ?

Otto,

RailSim.exe still requires the disk to be in the driver.

It is RailSimEditor.exe that allows for no disk. But you must have the DevTools installed to have this file.

Guys,

Here are the command line codes for both programs, after the MK2 update, just in case anybody wants to further fool with them. Note that only RailSimEditor has the -NoSplashScreens one. Not sure what a couple of them do yet.

RailSim.exe:
-relaunchmce
-NASKU

RailSimEditor.exe:
-relaunchmce
-EnableFullEditor
-NoSplashScreens

Thanks for your compliment, but at least I can read, you apparently can not.

My Mark-2 Update RailSim.exe still requires the RS DVD in it's drive.

Have a look at the 2 posts above your's !

Why don't you check something out before making incorrect statements ! Have you actually tried running the MARK-2 RailSim.exe everbody else needs the RS DVD in it's drive so that it loads RS ? Or have you got a special copy of it from RSDL of have hacked yours ? ;)

I am not going to report this insult to the Mods, everybody in the forums here being aware of your attitude towards me and are not taking a bit of notice !

If you are trying to wind me up then forget it, I have learned to ignore most of what you post about me and if there is more of the sort shall add you to my Ignore list ! ;)

Otto - it's been mentioned several times that the RailSimEditor.exe does not require a disc in the drive. Why you keep harping on about the Railsim.exe is anyone's guess.

Correct !

I wrote that before I found out that the new MARK-2 RailSimEditor.exe no longer requires the RS DVD and loads RS even faster than the MARK-1 version, if the -NoSplashScreens switch is being used.

Because you insist that the MARK-2 Railsim.exe does not require the RS DVD too, ignoring a number of posts saying otherwise !

Anyway, I am getting tired of reading your replies and am adding you to my short list of members whose messages I do not want to see displayed on my forum screens.

Nonsense. Not once have I ever stated that the Railsim.exe did not require a disc.

Anyway, I am getting tired of reading your replies and am adding you to my short list of members whose messages I do not want to see displayed on my forum screens.
Sounds like a good idea to me - I was beginning to believe that you enjoyed a good spanking now and then...

Hiya,

Just to confirm against the opening post

- Standard Rail Simulator has command line shortcuts disabled, so I am suprised you ever managed to use the NoSplashScreens command with it.

- Developer Rail Simulator has command line shortcuts enabled, and so if you wish to use any such comamnds, this is the version to use them with.

Pre-MkII, the added switch to the Railsim.exe always worked fine. Post-MkII, no, but does so for the RailSimEditor.exe, which is OK by me.

FWIW.

how does this help me at all?

oh i see, you thought i meant i didnt have a DVD at all... i said i was on a laptop, or notebook if you prefer, and i meant i didnt bring the DVD with me. i am one of those guys that actually went out and got RS on the first day when it was 48 dollars or so. i can see where i might have confused you, but that isnt the case.
