Can someone explain a couple of things re "modify" - "options" window on starting the game:
OS - no problems
Resolution - easy
Multi sample type - What's that?
Monitor arrangement - easy
Full screen - easy
Enable EAX - I don't have a creative sound card so no problem
Forced Software mixing - What's that?

Is there somebody out there who could answer those questions, please? I too like to know the answers.

Thanks

Burghard :)

Ditto, Burghard !

Doubt whether anybody here knows all the answers and the RSDL crew are too busy dealing with MARK-2 problems in their forum and haven't got the time to explain ! :o

Colin, if you've just installed the Mk2, then the Options you need are not in game, but here:

The main thing to check IS your OS. Set it for English.

Multi sample type - refers to Multisample anti-aliasing (MSAA) and is a type of anti-aliasing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-aliasing), a technique used in computer graphics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_graphics) to improve image quality. If you let the game decide what level of MSAA to use ( from within the graphics drivers ) then it will use what you set here.

Forced Software mixing - means that sound will be processed by the cpu instead of your sound card/chip.

Many thanks. I would have thought that using the CPU for sound might slow down things a bit, though. Would the sound be more synchronised than using a sound card? I think I must get a Creative Labs 24 bit EAX baby. :) Anybody notice a really worthwhile improvement in the sound with one?

On another point: A bit strange that there has to be a window which says "Modify" only to open a windows which says "Options". Unless, of course, it is for something that is going to come next week. ;) or maybe a bit later.

Running the sound via the cpu is not ideal and could slow down the game but by how much I don't know. Also you might lose some effects by running it this way. I have a X-FI xtreme gamer and it does sound better than onboard sound.

Hi John,

Since you know what this is, can you tell me what yours is set at, is it checked
or not? After I installed mine it was already checked by default. I have the same type
of sound card as you, but I can't tell any difference.

My settings are -

Enable EAX ( if available ) - ticked
Force Software Mixing - un-ticked

Well, after several attempts to get my RS running after installing the MK2 updates, I was ready to give up and forget the game until I saw this post. :( I tried several times last night to get the game to play and I kept getting S/DS and even after I rebooted my PC, No luck. So, I tried again today, still the same thing. Then I realized I had to reset my screen resolution and the Default OS to English in Option settings. Finally, the game came back to life! ;)
Yes, the game does load up a little faster than before and for some reasons, I think my FPS is a little better, also.;)

Certainly in the Oxf-Padd route, the fps has doubled for me. I think RSDL have cleared some of the crap that Kuju piled in!! :)
