unlike MSTS KRS has a begining sound a middle and a end. So, youd have to break the begining of the horn sound into one file the middle and the end. Thats what helps you give short burts in the sim, but if you knew all that and would like to know how Im very sure you can take a wav sound from MSTS and just rename it but give it the .dav extentsion.

The blind leading the blind.

First off, the sampling rate for the old sound files in MSTS are nothing like those found in KRS. Converting the old to the new will only result in crappy sound files.

Secondly, you cannot simply rename a wav extension to an RS dav sound file. It must to go through a conversion process before the sim will recognize it.

Hi. I would say Im far from blind but I will admit it has been a while since Ive dug into RS files. What I meant to say was, you can change the proxyxml file to play a .wav instead of a dav which can be done by opening it with wordpad. These files are located in C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Audio\RailVe hicles\Diesel\ES44 there you can just change the file extentsion to .wav in the proxyxml and then rename your wav file to the proper file name such as T_ES44_HW_HornEnd.wav

Also, when I said you can take a wav from MSTS and rename it and give it a dav extenstion I meant to convert it and give it a dav extentsion, but I figured that would be common sense. How else would you give it a dav extentsion without first converting it? It was a quick response so for that Im sorry if I confused anyone.

Baloney. "Rename" and "convert" aren't even remotely close to the same meaning.

What I meant by rename was to rename the wav file to the new RS file for example horn.wav to T_ES44_HW_HornEnd.wav I used a bad choice of words is all. So, once again take the file from MSTS and rename it (T_ES44_HW_HornEnd.wav) then convert (part I left out) T_ES44_HW_HornEnd.dav or leave it as a wav and change your proxyxml to reflect the new file extentsion. For your information Hack Ive worked enough with RS audio files and have helped plenty of people over the last few months with audio, along with other issues and havent had one complaint yet. We can go all day on whether I was just "blind" or actually mispoke, why not just let it go and you explain how he can achieve this feat if you can do so any better, or would he have to pay for this information?

Hi Tim !

What does your SD40 Horn sound like ?

I like the one I got and have aliased it to the ES44 ! ;)

If you like your SD40 horn sound then can let you have my 4 SD40 aliased to the ES44 sound files which do that. Back-ups of the originals will be included.

If your SD40 horn is no good either then you can have my SD40 horn sounds too !

Hi. When I used onboard audio some of my sounds, sounded high pitched. After I installed a sound card though I havent had a problem since. So, Id say yes it could very well be your card. Im not expert on cards for sure but Id say try onboard audio to see if Id have the same effect or maybe a driver issue? That is just my opinion though, hard to tell.
