Since with the mk2 update I picked up the sim again, with a bit of trepidation I ask the following: has anyone modified the physics for the loco brakes etc. especially for the US route (and where are the files or instructions)?
Thanks.

Can you be more specific? Steam, diesel, dynamic brakes?

If you mean their efficiency when they are being applied then you might want to try these amendments:

Before you install it, BACK-UP your ASSETS folder ! ;)

I was thinking more of MSTS where the .eng and .wag files that had to be edited in order to get the brakes to responds more realistically (also considering the number of cars being pulled).
So maybe my question should be how does one do this in this sim; when I dl the new patch and tried the Cajon route the brakes in emergency stoppped a train going 60 mph in 20feet or so, reminded me of how things used to be in MSTS.
I dl the file that ottodad listed, but I'm not sure what this will do if I run the exe. (or should I just give up and wait to see if Microsoft pulls the plug again on their new sim?)
Thanks.

Try that site's physics section 86thstreet, it is possible to make changes using the sertz file.

Following a suggestion from a French TGV driver member, who's name escapes me at the moment, I have increased this parameter in locos EngineSimulation.bin files: MaxForcePercentof Vehicle, improving the response of the brakes, helpful when switching in yards and providing a better response when applying the emergency brakes !
The erratic notching of some locos, especially the dual control ones, has been improved in this parameter RestInNothchedPosition following advice from Jim Ward !
Other RS engine settings are a mystery to me and our MSTS Physics experts have so far not come up with comprehensive suggestions on how to apply their knowledge to RS engine files !

There are official documents that address the various variables in the engine and simulation files. Go to this link and download the Feb 08 Docs file (look on the right-hand side of the screen). Among the pdf files are ones that discuss locomotive simulations.

Thanks. If monsoon season hits New York State and I'm hold up in a cellar with a computer spreadsheet and an internet connection I'll try and make headway on this stuff.
In the meantime almost makes me wish I had an HO railroad (a lot less trouble making two or more trains run in opposite directions on a single track with sidings.)
But seriously, thanks.

Sorry, Jean-Louise, but my memory is not getting any better at my age ! :(
Yes, it was you who told me how to improve loco brakes, I could not find searching for your post, having forgotten your name !
Take care, O t t o.

Well, the problem is, if you have very specific ideas about how things should be, you are probably going to have to be ready to invest some time and energy in making them work that way. Its not all prepackaged.
