If somebody could suggest which settings to use in the NVIDIA control panel, would be appreciated. I have an 8500GT.
Also, what settings should I use within the program? Right now, I'm getting 25fps, but I'm also experiencing stuttering, giving me 15fps. I have Vertical Sync set for "force off."
Thanks as always,
Robert

I just want to clarify - I need the best settings for Rail Sim.

I have a Nvidia 8600GT (512mb)
I'm sure it's not a million miles away in performance from an 8500, so here's some screen grabs of my setup. I hope it helps!

My Vertical Sync is set to 3D application and I don't really know if this is the right setting. Trial and error setting up has not proved to show any difference in performance when changing a great deal of the overall settings! But I do recommend that you at least allow the application to overrule the graphics card first then try setting up the GC afterwards if the performance doesn't improve.

I should point out that the above setting do give me a "decent" graphics experience although there will always be some "stuttering" as the games graphics updates itself from the hard drive as you progress along the route.
Having said that, the only route I have any real problems with is Oxford-Padd. The S&D is always smooth and flowing!

While we're on the same subject, what is your recommendation for MSTS on 8600 GT 512 NB card? I have the same thing you have. I just have the basic settings and it does run MSTS just fine but I want to fine-tune it.;)

Sorry!
But I'm not running MSTS...
But I'm sure a little trial and error fine tuning will give you what you want eventually.

One other tweak I've found to be important - turn off any anti-virus and ad-blocking programs you have running in the background. This is true for MSTS, Rail Sim and Trainz.

Yes!
I disconnect from the internet completely, as well, as turning as much as I can OFF!
This does have an effect on RS ... a positive one from my experience!

I found that with as much background nonsense as possible turned off, the program ran much smoother.
Now, if we could only get a seamless experience, with no herky-jerky. We can hope someday in the near future this will be the case.
