Every one seems civil. I learned that Lord Robert D has a sense of humor!!!!!!!!!!!! Well sort of.....

Maia,

"Every one seems civil."

That seems to be the crux of the matter, no?

When I first joined trainsim.com, it had only been in existence for a couple of months. There was only one forum, for MSTS, and all the comments were directed to that specific subject. In fact, it was no problem at all to go back and read every post from Post #1.

Then the various subforums proliferated--no problem--they were all about train simulation or trains. Among the last came the Yard. It was fun for a long time.

In the end, though, it stopped being fun. In the end, I thought Nels would simply have to rename the "Yard" to the "Political Ridicule Forum" or create a new forum of the same name.

The coinage became debased--a problem to anyone who knows history. The 80-20 rule went amok and became the 97-3 rule, when 3% of the people made 97% of the posts for the sake of ridiculing the "opposing" party.

For me, at least, it made the Yard a useless excursion and a waste of time. I applaud Hawk on starting his own forum for those who are interested in it. But here it degenerated into, not a discussion, but literally nothing more than a peacock display of bashing and ridicule.

I'm happy to see a little less of the one-sided political bashing myself. Nothing wrong with heated discussion, but when every sentence which doesn't agree with the party line is ridiculed, then it ceases to be worthwhile. Hopefully we'll start seeing shades of grey here rather than just black and white (oops, that last comment wasn't politically correct!).

"cut and dried"

Now that is interesting as an idiom in itself, Paul. There are some who would say that it is an example (although I admit almost universal these days) of a comparison that has outlived the understanding of most people. Sort of like dog-eat-dog degenerating into the old college freshman mistake of referring to a "doggy-dog" world.

In reality it probably is a reference to the jackleg carpenter's method of cutting and trying a piece of wood to see that it fit--back when good wood was cheap--so the expression may well be "cut and tried."

The blame falls directly on the name calling, not with the stubbornness of one's position on an issue or to protect a CAN'T from criticism of some agenda they are supporting.

Since, quite clearly, I am not a titled British citizen, what other reason would you have to insert "Lord" before my name on every post? Indeed, it isn't enough for you to answer every one of my posts in the yard, but you've even ventured into other areas and bashed my posts, mis-stating my position in my EULA addendum post, and then making a snide remark about my reply correcting you.

And, it's rather odd that you would attempt to correct my typographical error of "where" instead of "were." At least both of those are words, what, pray tell does "exclsuive" mean? I'm not sure I can even pronounce it.

Please don't try to play the "innocent li'l ol' me" approach, it won't work. If anyone here is guilty of bashing, it's you. Pardon me for speaking truth to arrogance.

Have a nice day! :)

I don't understand how my posts don't make since, but I'm glad you read them, BTW I live in Kansas.

Because:

#1 - your punctuation stinks.
#2 - you sentence structure is even worse
#3 - you sound incoherent
#4 - Spelling - when I see you posts in Firefox, I get a ton of red lines
#5 - Word choice - Since? How about SENSE? Jeez, you could cut and paste to try and get it right.

And they say Louisiana and Mississippi kids are not too sharp. If this is what the heartland if offering, we are screwed.

Still needs a lot of work on structure. And why scream?

your mad because your old! I'm not about to get banned because you got a big mouth!!

I'm not mad because I am old, I really don't care. Why would I be mad? I have been enjoying the sun and fun in Hawaii for almost 20 months on someone else's dime. And getting paid.

You really need to understand one thing - I really do not care if I hurt your self-esteem. The sooner you wake up and realize that the best you are going to do, writing the way you do, is operate a shovel, the better you will do. And don't tell me how good your grades are, anyone can get good grades, it is how you apply them and you have failed at that.

No I'm not. I'll agree with Kevin that your grammar could use improvement, and your sentences are sometimes incoherent. That doesn't necessarily make one stupid, only uneducated. However, it makes you sound stupid even if you aren't. Seriously, if you're still in school see if you can get some help with your writing. I'm saying this in a kind way. How you present yourself is very important to how far you'll get in life.

I think Kevin has a point. Communication should be clear, concise, and accurate. That's how misunderstandings are avoided. If Kevin contracted with me to build the Taj Mahal, and sent me the plans for the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and I built it according to the plans, both of us wasted our time.

I love helping people out on the forums, and quite often, have people send things to me to fix. I've seen a lot of other people do it, also, but sometimes, it's like pulling teeth or playing twenty questions just to get an idea of what's wrong. People post a dark screenshot and ask how to "fix this" without a hint what we're looking at. Other people ask questions that make no sense. Check out Kurt's thread on the Vomit Comets, he asks very good questions, with a lot of detail, and the answers reflect that.

If you constantly write things like "that dont make no since," people like me have to pause and try to figure out what the forum you're talking about. I, like Kevin, tend not to waste my time.

Whether you see it or not, whether it's clear or not, Kevin is actually trying to help you, and if you'd get over yourself, and do something simple like downloading IE Spellcheck, you could learn an awful lot and help yourself. Trust me, no company is going to hire you when you misspell your name on the employment application.

Well, except for somebody who needs someone who may not necessarily know how to spell "shovel" but knows how to use one.

BTW, Barbie ran off with GI Joe when he got back from 'Nam. Ken's living in San Fransisco now, and fronts a tribute group to the Village People.
