View Full Version : Checking Add-On Routes like the ALPS

There having been many problems installing the ALPS route, caused mainly by missing custom Assets and rolling stock, this is what I do before installing any add-on route.

I have a copy of the installed from DVD Rail Simulator folder on a logical drive partition and use another copy of it to install add-on routes into, either with the RSPackager or Mike Simpson's RouteSetup.exe, my preferred method.

Doing this with my ALPS-OTTO copy of the ALPS which uses the default Class 166 DMU only, Mike Simpson's RS_Tools_TMB.exe checking it found all these assets missing, despite having included many of it's assets in the download ZIP:

Not everybody has them all. Forinstance not all have the All Track Trackrules installed and adding what I could into my:
www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/rs/alps-assets.zip
download, this is what remains missing and can be ignored, it not interfering with the original ALPS and my copy of it running:

The latest update for MARK-2 has used new rolling stock, forcing me to update my:
www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/rs/alps-rolling-stock.zip
with the additions.

All this should be done by developers of add-on routes to make sure that installers of them do not have to bother assembling all of what the routes need, having to laboriously download them from multiple web sites, some not using English.

Otto,

Does your alps-rolling-stock package overwrite any of the RS rolling stock? I see what look like some of the default equipment in there too. Just wondering.

Hi Bill !

It will not overwrite RS default, payware or their "Free" add-on rolling stock, there not being any in the download other than some which have been re-skinned by freeware vendors.

However, if I have included any by mistake would appreciate you telling me which ones are RS originals or other payware.

Since releasing my first modification of RS routes and Adam making me aware of the DOs and DONT's, I think that he is monitoring what I am making available from my RS downloads web page, which no matter what is intended to enhance the enjoyment of RS ! :D

Hi Bill !

Apart from the BR294 and BR101 default folders, their presence not likely to give RSDL any headaches, Jim Ward and other loco skinners also having included some, all the others are 3rd party add-ons and were supplied with them. You will have to ask their vendors why they are there.

Most re-skinned variations are based on the RS design originals, using the same files, textures having been modified and in my case some of their physics.
