View Full Version : Can't get downloaded engine to work

I have installed the KRS Repaint of SD40-2 in Wheeling & Lake Erie colors by James Collins downloaded from the library here. I cannot seem to get the locomotive to work properly.
I can select it and drop it on a track, but that's the end of it. I can't seem to click on it to reverse it's direction, add a driver, etc. Once I set it on a track I can't even select it to delete it!
Every other repaint I have d/l'ed works perfectly. I have removed and reinstalled this WLE unit a couple times with no change in the problem.
Any suggestions?

Hi Rich !
The NSSD40_Def2.bin is looking for these folders which do not exist in my RailSimulatorUS folders:
Diesel\SD40-2\NSSD40\
Diesel\WLE\NSSD40\
Could this be the reason why it is untouchable ?

Otto,
I haven't a clue about this. I sort of had MSTS figured out pretty well when it came to troubleshooting, but this Railsim stuff is all Greek to me.
Given the relatively small number of repaints/addons for KRS I was hoping someone else who had tried to use this locomotive with the same results as mine might offer a fix. Do you have any suggestions, Otto?

Yes, I was rather surprised that out of hundreds of downloaders only you have reported this problem, I can confirm having tried to use it in a test route.
The re-paint shows O.K., but there is something wrong with it's operational functions.
This not being a loco created by a friend who would not mind me trying to fix it and make it available from my web site, your best bet is to contact the vendor and ask him for a fix ! ;)
He and perhaps others have a loco installed which this one needs to get some data from.
Take care, O t t o.

So I had some spare time before going to bed and fixed that diesel ! ;)
Here is a pair of them in the CAJON-OTTO-MINOR's Barstow East yards, the partly de-fogged and re-colored by me distant mountains looking good, Tom Boswell's partly cloudy skies adding to the improved views ! :D

As I don't think that releasing the fix from my web site is going to upset anybody, you can download it from here:

It has Jean-Louise Chauvin's more efficient brakes and is responsive when driving it.
O.K. guys, you can have some fun now after adding it to your rolling stock assembly ! ;)
Take care, O t t o.

Thank you Otto! :D
I live in the State of Ohio in the USA and the Wheeling & Lake Erie has quite a presence here. It's one of my favorites!
Although I admit it looks out of place on the Cajon, still I like running it.

I down loaded the WLE SD40-2 repaint and also had issues. I am guessing that due to the whatever creates the BIN files there are relative references to files that exist only in the authors, and some others, computers. Trying to sort these out is less than fun after the first one. I see nothing of the engine when installed in my working copy. I only see couplers when installed in a pristine copy. The "couplers only" seems to be an all too often result of some downloaded engines. I have never had an issue with cars/wagons.

Otto,
Getting a "file not found" error when I try the link. Just thought I'd let you know. What did you change to make this engine work?

Hi Doug !
Can't remember exactly but think it was looking for non-existent folders.
Anyway, you got a PM with the current download link, valid until the end of the month when I can restore normal services !
Take care, O t t o.
