What to do when MSTS don't want to run on Vista? I'm starting to see a lot of new topics regarding MSTS and new computers with Vista. I am going to tell you how to resolve some of your problems here. This is like FAQ sort of thing....... :D
"Why does MSTS crashes on exiting the game?"
To resolve this, Go to your desktop icon for MSTS and click on properties, go to compatibly tab and make sure you check "Run as Administrator" and click "ok." Also, run this program in Window XP compatibly mode from the pull down menu on the same page.
You're not done yet, In the same properties, go to security and click on "Edit" and whoever is the administrator(you) of your PC and click on add. You want to make sure that you have full control of MSTS. This will come in handy if you want to edit something like eng/wag files in the game. This process may take a while as it goes thru the whole MSTS files. Once you're done, Click "OK" and you're done!
"My MSTS looks kinda stretched on widescreen."
To resolve this (I only know how to fix this one for ATi video card in Vista laptop)
Open your ATi video card control panel (Catalyst Control Center,
On the left tab; click on Notebook Panel Properties and you will see Scaling Options, Click on preserve Aspect Ratio and click "OK" to save it.
For other card or desktop machine, You'll have to find similar scaling options on your video card control panel.
Note; you will see black bars on both sides of your screen when playing MSTS, this is normal if you don't want to see a stretched MSTS.
"Why does UAC keep popping up when I want to run other programs?"
To resolve this or put UAC in silence mode, Get UACTweak here. (http://www.tweak-uac.com/download/)
And finally, Can your system run it? Click here (http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest) and find out. I know MSTS is not listed here.
As for other programs for MSTS like Conbuilder, Route-riter, Train Store, Shape viewer, and other utilities...........
It will run on Vista but on some of them, you might have to click "Run as Administrator" if it will not let you run it or crashes on you.
This is all I know for now. I only know how to do this on Window Vista 32 bits. I don't know about vista 64 bits if it works any different. Anyone who is an expert would like to help out, please feel free to post in this thread. Thank you in advance.
Please, do not post your problems here, it will be deleted.
