Anything that can drown out Keith Olbermann and Chris Mathews can't be a bad thing! I wonder if Chris got a tingly feeling up his leg from the steam...

ASTA better be done with #786's decade-long overhaul this year!!!!!

Oberman quipped that the conductor was probably a Republican. :D

The sound of that whistle was awesome though, much better than the talking heads.

I watched the convention on CSPAN...no commercials and very few TH's. :)

Back in the days when UP 844 was a GP30 and the FEF was 8444, I went on a trip from Denver to Sterling and back behind it. As I recall, not only were the exhaust and the whistle loud, but by turning the oil feed up a bit (ok - a lot) on a runby they could blot out half of Colorado! But then, it's an Alco isn't it.

Just a thought. We have phones we can download all sorts of ringtones for, how come nobody has yet come up with an auto horn we could download whistle tones for?

Because that would be illegal? Atleast here it's illegal to have anything else than standard car horns.

But it would be kinda hilarious if you'd hear a car go by with "BLOW ME NOW, *****!!!" or something.

Well I'll be, there's another member from Round Rock? This is news to me.

In Austin it's just north of where UP crosses Town Lake, then follow the Austin Subdivision north to Taylor and it's on the East end of the yard, right next to the one overpass in downtown Taylor. :D

I can't tell you how eager I've been for ASTA to get that engine up and running...

It would be illegal to play tunes and so forth in the UK, but a nice air horn sound, or if you are of a New Haven disposition a Hancock air whistle, that would be fine. Surely, so long as the sound was constant, that would be OK.

I've always thought of steam locos as "rolling thunderstorms":D.

I did find out a while ago that the MSTS sounds are compatible with iTunes. That may be as close as you could get...

I've done that through the PA system on my car. Good times, good times...
