View Full Version : Will MSTS-2 have a calendar option?

I was wondering if MSTS-2 will have a calendar format similar to what is found in FSX which alows the user to select the time and date of departure. Third parties could come up with creating AI train schedules based on real-world schedules as what is currently done in FSX with flight schedules. I appologize if this topic has been discussed before.

Sincerely,
Walter

If activities were based on days of week, 24 hour clock call times (an example would be how Train Dispatcher 3 is set-up) then it's possible. But judging how the MSTS1 model is based on single activities, with no random variables in time I doubt it.

I've always wanted to see Activity Changer accomplish this in MSTS1, and even considered programming my own version of it. But I'd rather hold off and see what MSTS2 brings us, and work with it from there.

I'm pretty confident based on what I've heard thus far you won't see this on the MSTS2 program as it ships. But with SimConnect (and perhaps even without it) I'm working towards something similar down the road that will allow this from an add-on point of view.

Thanks

Sean

This might be a little tougher as freight lineups are only available to employees and people on the "inside", if you know what I mean. It would be cool though.

As far as I know you can set the time to a specific date and time. And I think you can set the date and time in an activity too.

i hope it has that "use system time for free flight option" in ts2. where in fsx it use your computer clock for default free flight.

The inclusion of a date setting with I assume years sparked my interest has users can change the year back to the headay of the so-called "Golden Age of Railroading" to run steam locomotives with perhaps steam era scenery and AI traffic whereas users can also select more recent years to run modern trains and scenery.

And while we don't know if date-dependent scenery will be included out-of-the-box, if MSTS2 is using this aspect of the Flight Simulator engine, then it should certainly be possible to create such objects. MSFS has included scenery objects tied to dates such as volcanic eruptions and fireworks displays. I'm looking forward to detailing the EBT to depict how it changed over time (like having loading tipples appear and disappear over time, perhaps showing more grass/shrubs to hide some tracks to suggest their disuse, or hopefully being able to suppress segments of track altogether based on date?)

If you can select the day and time, then I would like to see snow melt and reapear slowly and see trees slowly change colour and lose there leaves.
