You know the drill...;) This one looks like it is going to treat the Caribbean, like a bowler's hook shot.

Still waitin' to see what Hanna Montana :D does, then we'll see where Ike goes. Might be a one-two punch for the Carolinas and Georgia.

Hanna Montana is coming through NYC today. Lots of rain but other than that not too bad. Ike looks like it's heading for New Orleans.

Holy Crap...How often do you read the following line, in a weather alert... I hope our TS friends in the area, have plans to stay safe.
PERSONS NOT HEEDING EVACUATION ORDERS IN SINGLE FAMILY ONE OR TWO STORY HOMES MAY FACE CERTAIN DEATH.

For what?! Telling the truth??? I think it is a good thing, for a government entity, to just come right out and say what the situation truly is, instead of being wishy washy, and using political correct speak.

For one thing, it's bad grammar, "may" and "certain" don't go together in that context, in addition, even if it's true, it's just too alarmist. There's better ways to say it, and if they're wrong, if the Hurricane takes a sharp left turn or something and misses, they look like idiots, and it's harder to get people to evacuate next time. Kind of like when Barney and Enos point their guns at people to prevent them from returning home.

Blocky grammar is deliberate.. Those alerts are read by a computerized voice, did you go to the link? I just posted one sentence, out of a much larger page. They need to be blunt, to let most [people that are unaccustomed to blunt talk, to take is seriously.
This is the rest of the paragraph.
LIFE THREATENING INUNDATION LIKELY!
ALL NEIGHBORHOODS...AND POSSIBLY ENTIRE COASTAL COMMUNITIES...
WILL BE INUNDATED DURING THE PERIOD OF PEAK STORM TIDE. PERSONS
NOT HEEDING EVACUATION ORDERS IN SINGLE FAMILY ONE OR TWO STORY
HOMES MAY FACE CERTAIN DEATH. MANY RESIDENCES OF AVERAGE
CONSTRUCTION DIRECTLY ON THE COAST WILL BE DESTROYED. WIDESPREAD
AND DEVASTATING PERSONAL PROPERTY DAMAGE IS LIKELY ELSEWHERE.
VEHICLES LEFT BEHIND WILL LIKELY BE SWEPT AWAY. NUMEROUS ROADS
WILL BE SWAMPED...SOME MAY BE WASHED AWAY BY THE WATER. ENTIRE
FLOOD PRONE COASTAL COMMUNITIES WILL BE CUTOFF. WATER LEVELS MAY
EXCEED 9 FEET FOR MORE THAN A MILE INLAND. COASTAL RESIDENTS IN
MULTI-STORY FACILITIES RISK BEING CUTOFF. CONDITIONS WILL BE
WORSENED BY BATTERING WAVES CLOSER TO THE COAST. SUCH WAVES
WILL EXACERBATE PROPERTY DAMAGE...WITH MASSIVE DESTRUCTION OF
HOMES...INCLUDING THOSE OF BLOCK CONSTRUCTION. DAMAGE FROM
BEACH EROSION COULD TAKE YEARS TO REPAIR.

They could start by not using words such as "inundation, exacerbate," and technical terms like "Block Construction."
Obviously written by a beauracrat!
Well, I don't care what they say, I'm not going anywhere.

BTW, it is bureaucrat.
Too bad you do not live on the coast. Then you could show you superiority by standing on the beach as it comes in and using all of your hot air to divert it back out.
For Google Earth users a good site for weather addons:

BTW, it's "your."
I thought that bureaucrat looked wrong, just didn't feel like looking it up.
Gee, Kevin, you might want to try some of those pills that I keep getting spammed about, you know, the ones that promise to "enhance male performance?" It might help...

You're all ignoring the more important point - the robot invasion of northern Montana. Soon we'll all be bowing to our metal overlords, innit.

I was reading about that, I understand they feed on people's brains, which is why they're avoiding Washington D.C.

Use Firefox, then you would get a nice red line and I am sure you could understand that.
Gee, why would I need them? I don't have any problems in that area. Have you been forgetting to take you Lithium?

The Ike gas supply shock is starting. According to the wife, prices are over $4.50, approaching $5 in town this morning, and 2 stations are completely out of regular.

Did anyone see the dude lifted from the roof noonish today by a helicopter?
Seems he was staying in a building right in the gulf up on steel pilings. Bait Shop/Convenience Store on the lower level with an apartment above. He went upstairs to watch the news. After a bit the generator failed so he went downstairs to see what the problem was. Hmmm....first floor stores were gone.
Called 911 about 11 PM, just when the storm was hitting shore. "We'll get to you when we can." That must have been one hellish 12 hours or so.
Then when they get his sorry ass to shore (after putting the helicopter and crew in danger) the TV folks ask if he'll leave the next time....
"I was born on the island so I'll probably stick around."
I have my doubts. I'd think that guy had a load in his pants and wouldn't admit it.

Had the forecast for the tidal surge been accurate, the second floor would have been gone as well.
Galveston got lucky. The storm surge was lower then expected allowing the seawall to protect the city from total destruction.
Lets see if they upgrade building codes in Dallis on windows in skyscrapers and enforce it. The 70 story office building lost most of its windows and office furniture to the hurricane force winds. A nearby tall building only lost one window. The building across the street was badly damaged from the projectiles being launched at it from the contents of the tall office building.
