The first cross-border attack into Pakistan.

Conjecture is that the US was willing to risk a backlash because they were after a "high priority" target. Wonder who?

Who cares about the backlash, just get it done. Also it sends the signal that they're not safe in their little hideouts in Pakistan.

I thought it was "Osama bin Laden" not "Usama bin Laden". When did they change his name or am I simply imagining things?

I've seen it spelled several different ways. Of course, it's an Arab name, with Arab pronunciation, based on the Arab alphabet and language. So it's probably a reasonable spelling either way to approximate the actual pronunciation.
I also suspect the Press is trying to make it look a little less like another, similar, name that's been in the headlines lately.
I guess it won't really matter how they spell it on his tombstone.

It's courtesy of those same nitwit TV news editors that decided Qatar would be pronounced "Cutter" 'cos they were too damned lazy to look up the pronounciation. Guess too many talking heads freaked.
Either that, or they thought Usama was a bit too "poofy":p

Don't forget those are the same numbskull news editors and talking heads that changed the pronuciation of the planet Uranus to your- uh- nus from your-anus because (at least IMOHO) they remembered and were embarased by the old Captain Kirk/Charmin joke.

Speaking of changes in pronunciation which annoy me, what about when they suddenly decided to pronounce sheikh as "shake" rather than "sheek". For years I heard it pronounced the second way.

And there's one of the more prominent News Magazine that imagines it makes them look "oh-so-sophisticated" if they refer to al Qaida as simply "Qaida" leaving off the "al" since it just means "the" and "isn't part of the name..." Even though everyone else on the planet does it the other way...

There is no doubt that some very dangerous characters are hiding out in a country that we need as an ally in fighting Terrorist. At the same time, the leaders of this country are in a balancing act that they don't end up being taken over by those same Terrorist. That would automatically give those Terrorist something they highly desire - nuclear weapons.
Perhaps, one reason the incursion took place.
Osama bin Laden's al-Qa'eda terror group, whose terrorist infrastructure is based in the province of Waziristan in northwest Pakistan, is known to be trying to acquire nuclear technology to use in terror attacks against the West.

Has the "He whose name I dare not mention or it will awaken the sleeping enforcers of the fairness doctrine (aka censors)" condemned this incursion into a neutral country killing innocent civilians by the despicable, bloodthirsty US military yet..

...also known as a great way to get a perfectly good thread locked.
Though many here may not believe me, as an independant foreign observer to US Foreign Policy, I can tell you there is very little difference between either party on this particular topic. Both leaders have let little slips get to the media that they support border incursions to take out bin Laden. Afghanistan has a UN mandate, heck even the Russians & Chinese are on side with this.
Only thing that ticks me off about this is how our NATO allies are shirking their responsibilities. Canada will soon loss our 100th soldier. Now that may not seem like much, but we have 2000 troops there, and this is huge for the size of our Armed Forces. Frankly we're fighting out of our weight class, and the only people saving our butts are the US (of course), the Brits, and of all armies the French. Where the hell is everyone else considering this is a UN mandated war?
That's why I don't give a rat's (behind) about what country we're going in to kill this bastard & his merry troop of mass-murderers. Just get it done! And as for methods, well it's always easier to ask forgiveness then to ask for permission.

Here! Here!
P.S. NATO = No Action Talk Only (American, Brit & Canadian opinion from my days 20 years ago serving on a NATO military staff )
P.P.S. aren't the "French" troops over there from La Legion? Ergo they are not "French"

No matter what the CANs or the CAN'Ts say or propose to do, one thing is for certain, the supporters of Radical Islam want us dead. Period!
The quicker the policy makers get off the kick of Political Correctness and stop worrying about what the rest of the world thinks about us, the quicker this enemy will get exterminated!
They are not a country. They are not a legitimate religion, they are power hungry thugs using perverted teachings of Islam to justify their behavior. There is no other solution, they MUST be exterminated for surely, they will not stop killing until we have submitted to their slavery.
Since they welcome death more then we welcome life, lets just give it to them and be done with it.
