Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has created some late 1940s through early 1950s cars to use as scenery objects for a route. Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,
Walter

Wayne Campbell created a few that can be downloaded over at Elvas Tower (http://www.elvastower.com/forums/index.php). :)

Hallo!
You can also download them from Wayne Campbell's own site:

Maybe some of the trucks from http://kelticsylk.dyndns.org/ (although a little older) would go well with this era.

Keep on steamin'!

Tim Muir has a number of them as well, mostly West Coast prototypes. You can find them at Elvas Tower. -Phil

There's also one or two at Railwaystation.com if I recall. A '57 chevy for sure that was pretty nice. ;)

Thank you for bringing to my attention Wayne's cars. I am thinking about using these cars to replace several sets of cars found in a route. Accordingly, I was wondering how I would go about creating a set of Wayne's cars to use as scenery. In other words, I would like to create a set of cars representing one scenery item. I hope that description makes sense. Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,
Wqalter

As in making say a 'parking lot' that 6, 9 or more of Wayne's cars aligned and arranged as one scenery item? I think that would be pretty tough to do, and maybe would have to be done by Wayne himself?

But to simply swap out cars of a route with Waynes is fairly easy with Route Riter. Simply go to MSTS File Utilities, and use 'Replace Shapes in .W files'. Select something say 'USA1CAR.S' in the list and replace with 'WC1947STUD.S'. Do this again for USA2car with another of Wayne's cars.s, and so on. And eventually you can transform a route to a different era. ;)

You may not want a parking lot of Wayne's cars. Someone over at Elvas Tower made a car lot with them, they said their FPS went all the way down. Each of those cars is 6000+ polys.

Even two of them together would be right at the limits of a single scenery object.

Walter,
Most have understood your request concerning "cars" to mean automobiles. I wonder if yor really intended that to be freight cars? Out west, there are all kinds of farm areas and home sites close by the tracks that have old 40 foot freight cars that are use for storage. The most unusual site I saw was at Muleshoe, Texas where there are about 40-50 old freight cars that have been elevated about 10 feet above ground for use as storage. I don't recall any MSTS freight cars that can be used for off track storage.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I indeed meant 1940s automobiles. Maybe someone could come up with a lower poly version of the cars.

I am having a difficult time following this thread now. Are you alluding to that you are working on set of cars? Thank you for the clarification.

Sincerely,

Not any idea past what the caption for that photo says. It seems to be an inefficient storage method, but I guess if the price was right...
