I've downloaded most of the objects from the library but need other buildings that are not there. What other sites have libraries of object files ??

Feedback : You may need to go "global" , and look at international train-sim sites . U.K. Train Sim is excellent , and if you are more adventurous in deciphering foreign languages, there are some others in France and Germany ( to name a few ) .

Then again , you would only find limited content applicable to North America, but there are a few gems to be found . You may want to look up the page on the official Microsoft Train Simulator site, for the complete list of "Train Sim communities".

Other than that , you may have to either create your own , or ask help from others who are proficient at this aspect of Route Building .

With a limited amount of skills, also, you can take an exisiting building , and simply "reskin" it, with something closer to what you have in mind .

In a project I am working on right now, I will mostly drop exisiting / generic buildings into place, an later on , as time permits, revisit the most noticeable trackside ones , and replace those with original content .

As far as quickly creating building "boxes" such as generic warehouses, etc ..., you may want to look up at the free Google Sketchup program .

Make sure you read all the tutorials , to save months after months of wasted efforts, and read up tutorials / download the required plugins ( by Paul Gausden , if I have this right ) to transfer Google models into a format suitable for Train Sim purposes .

This alternative, by no means , would replace using better-suited design programs, such as Train Sim Modeler by Abacus / 3D Canvas by Amablis, and the relevant Gmax program .

I hope this points you in the right direction / writing this from work, I have no time to post direct links to help you at this precise moment .

Hope this helps !

As it relates to creating generic building in Goggle Sketchup, I just came across 4 screenshots I had already posted on Photobucket .

This was my very first attempt at creating a model in Google Sketchup, and successfully making it suitable for Train Sim purposes .

For the record, all the doors / windows / rolling garage doors , were actually "cut & paste" from European Train Sim models ... If I was to create this building for the intent of sharing online, I would create original content ( for the added / "pasted" elements ).

One of the biggest setback in using Sketchup, is those incredible "moire" patterns , on such as sidings with equally spaced vertical or horizontal lines . Yikes ! ...

Most practical application , using Sketchup, would be creation of very generic / undetailed "mock ups" of buildings you would need, drop them on location in the Route , and later on , create a "real" 3D model, using the other design / Train Sim-friendly programs .

Just to give you some additional ideas . I had fun doing this, this was less than 16 hours starting from zero , but make sure once again , you read all the tutorials that are "built-in" ( in the Sketchup "Help" section ), and others , on various locations , including YouTube.

Another source of objects is routes which include custom objects. I have created some custom objects for the route I am working on but do not plan on releasing them separate from the route. No need to clutter the library with duplicate objects. But they can be included with other routes.

PRR, Heartland, and other projects have kept me busy with many custom structures.

New are many styles of grain elevators, lots of industrial structures such as barns, sheds, 40s style industrial structures, and a Levitt Town subdivision in various states of construction.

Once things settle down, I will need to sort out and upload some of the stuff.

This link will give you a bunch more links to MSTS sites around the world.

Activity Simulator World also has an extensive collection of objects.

Route Objects are under the 'CONSTRUCTIONS.' menu on the right hand side of the page.

The town is nothing more then boxes using carefully designed stock textures. I've have designed a variety of new structures using textures from one existing structure ranging from row houses to high rise project ghettos.

Such design method allows you to populate a city with thousands of structures without killing the sim with a poly and texture overload.

Some of those new structures, now in use on the PRR beta route, I may upload in the near future. Some can't be used unless you download the textures they share from other contributors.

Then, depending what happens in the next few days, I could end up leaving this forum to contribute my work elsewhere.

Sorry to hear that. I hope it works out. I for one, would miss your presence and talent.

It's nothing personal. It's just the extremely nasty election politics and selective censorship of the past few months down in The Yard that gets quite upsetting to us war veterans.

Holy snappers Ron! Forget about the pissants getting up your crap shoot. You fought for them so they could have their verbal excrement whenever they feel like 'they have to go.' I'd just quit going to areas here and anywhere that is the equivalent of a publc restroom is all. Your talents are too good to be ousted by some nimrods opinions.

Buck up man, and stay aboard the ship!... Please. :)

Not to worry:). The mods are no longer selectively censoring. It is just a wait and see what Pelosi does in the next few months finance wise that affects all of us. I certainly want to hang on to my Internet account as it is a pain for all when you have to switch providers to cut cost and the e-mail address is changed.

Will be a few weeks before I start sorting through stuff for posting. I have a growing collection of custom industrial structure to upload with many new sheet metal textures. There is also Levett Town with its plywood texture for housing tracks under construction. I have some under construction buildings that more examples before uploading them. And, there are some heavy 40s style industrial buildings with those massive skylight windows using the alpha channel so you can see through the structures along with two large industrial boiler houses.

All are in current use on the PRR Eastern Megaroute.
