“This may have been asked already, but is there a link or thread I can go to, to tell me what specs my computer will need for this Sim when it is released?”

“This is what i have, I would hope to think that this would be enough to run MSTS2”

Have you given FSX a try?

So far the best results have come from running it on an Intel Core 2 CPU and Nvidia’s 8800 GPU.

By the time we see MSTS-2 released second (or even third) generation DirectX 10 GPU’s will be available. Intel’s Penryn CPU will probably also be considered yesterday’s news.

According to this page http://www.tsinsider.com/en-US/produ...s/default.aspx MSTS2 will be a Games for Windows title.
If you then go to this link http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US...orwindows.aspx
it states that Games for Windows titles will run under XP.

I guess we'll see how that changes as the time gets closer.

“it states that Games for Windows titles will run under XP.”

By the time its released most will have already moved over to Vista anyway so I don’t really think it is an issue. If we finally see performance improvements with DirectX 10, running Vista will be only way to reap the benefits anyway.

I’m currently running Vista Ultimate 64 with SP1/RC on one of my machines and have not experienced any compatibility problems yet. With up to date drivers and SP1 RC installed Vista is really starting to come around.

I don't know if it makes that much of a difference what OS you are running when you check to see if it will run FS X,beings it runs on either.

I broke down and purchased Vista Ultimate 64 bit,and when I boot into Vista and check to see if I can run it,the results are the same as for XP. Of course if the train sim is infact Vista only
because of DX 10,as of right now I can't run it because I don't have a compatible video card.

Nothing like being forced into a new op system. If the point of a GOOD op system is to provide a stable link between hardware and software, then I have to ask why Vista vs XP makes a difference. I should be able to click on the file and go. It should be op system interdependant. Of course, if the point of this is to help push Vista (which I wouldn't put past those fatherless children of Micro$oft), then its nothing short of feces.

I guess I'm just annoyed with the whole consumptive milling of this product. Rather than taking something and making it more prototypical (braking, operations, and perhaps even front couplers) and more solid (so I don't feel the need to save every five minutes), they have to come up with more eye candy. Ferchristsakes, combining vista bugs and msts bugs should really be a treat.

Full steam ahead!

I totally agree.
My wife had a fit when I told her I was going to have to get Vista in order to run the new sim.
My luck, they (MS) will change their mind by the time its released and make it work in both.
Probably not.I'm guessing there is something in the programs engine, that they decided to NOT
do in the train sim that they did in the flight sim and make it solely Vista. Lets face it, sooner
than later we're going to see programs (games) not compatible with XP :-(

Not that I didn't know about,I just don't trust Microsoft to be honest about things.
I'll believe it when the product is in my hands :-)

Default Vista Horrors

Colleagues,

Yesterday while waiting for the local CompUSA to open (for about the last time), there were several of us, with experience in operating systems etc. waiting to get in and the subject of VISTA came up. One of our number was a systems manager for one of the larger companies and he told us that with Vista and a companion server software, Microsoft has added a new wrinkle.

Not only does Vista report to the mother ship on install, but it also re-reports every 6 months, and if anything has happened that corrupted your license data, Microsoft assumes that you are using pirated software and starts shutting down processes on your machine.

For this reason, he said his company was switching to LINUX for their servers and when they had no choice but to upgrade workstations, they would probably go to LINUX on those as well. Doubtless there are some who will use pirated software, but every bit of mine was purchased by me, or was OEM loaded by the computer vendor, which in my case is a local firm that builds all of my machines.

The WGA behavior of going into a reduced state of operation if it thinks the system is not genuine is being removed with the release of SP 1.
