All of this talk of SDP45s in the Items Wanted forum got me to do some research. EL SDP45 #3656 became WC #6634, after having been through CR, VMV and Helm Leasing. It dropped off of radar sometime after 2000, having suffered a blown turbo or some other major mechanical failure. I can't recall what exactly happened that caused her to get sidelined. I think it looked really sharp in WC maroon though. I'd hate to find out she was scrapped. I heard talk that she was to go to the IHB, but it hasn't showed up on that roster. I've also heard that it was going to Mexico for rebuilds (and I heard somewhere that it was scrapped while down there). Anyone know the end of the movie here for this unit? I figured maybe some of you WC junkies would know.

Jon,
Here's what I found on former WC 6634: Serial #: 36660 Order #: 7246-3 Build Date: 7/70 EL 3656 - CR 6687 -- VMVX 6687 --- MKCX 9511 ---- HLCX 7002 ----- WC 6634 ------ IHB 7601 Apparently, WC sold it to Railworld, who in turn sold it to IHB, and it was sent to Mexico for rebuilding, where it was apparently scrapped. It never shows up on any IHB roster. Info from trainweb.org/emdloco and the erielack email list @ railfan.net.

Awe man. Thats really a shame. The ex-EL 45 fleet is really thin as it is, thats just insult to injury. It would have looked great in IHB too. Wonder what caused them to decide to scrap it instead of rebuild. Usually if they have a number picked out for an engine, they are serious about actually bringing it on the roster.
