  11. FS2000/FS2002 Pander S.4 Postjager

FS2000/FS2002 Pander S.4 Postjager. The company built a small number of trainer and sporting aircraft, perhaps the most well-known aircraft being the Pander S.4 "Postjager", designed by Theo Slot. The design was suggested by pilot Dirk Asjes, who was critical of the slow development of Dutch airmail flights. He asked Pander to build a special mail plane. This was designated the S.4, and was known as the "Postjager" or "Panderjager" (and later, due to its mechanical unreliability, as the "Pechjager" - "Pech" being Dutch for "breakdown"). In October 1933 this aircraft flew to the Netherlands East Indies. It made an emergency landing in Italy, but eventually arrived at Batavia after 72 hours and 20 minutes in the air. 15. FS2000/FS2002 De Schelde DS 21

FS2000/FS2002 De Schelde DS 21. A Dutch company called Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde started an aviation department with the collapse of Pander and Zonen picking up that company's chief engineer in 1935. The aircraft had some unusual features. It was all-metal in construction, with a reverse gull wing with twin booms. De Schelde S.21 single seat fighter was powered by a 1085 hp Daimler-Benz DB 600G 12-cylinder inverted V liquid cooled engine driving a pusher propeller via a shaft. By Richard Alexander van Hien.

  16. FS2000/FS2002 Convair XFV1 Pogo

FS2000/FS2002 Convair XFV1 Pogo. The Convair XFY Pogo tailsitter was an experiment in vertical takeoff and landing. The Pogo had delta wings and three-bladed contra-rotating propellers powered by a 5500 hp Allison YT40-A-16 turboprop engine. It was intended to be a high-performance fighter aircraft capable of operating from small warships. Landing the XFY-1 was difficult as the pilot had to look over his shoulder while carefully working the throttle to land. By Richard Alexander van Hien.

  17. FS2000/FS2002 Vought XF5U

FS2000/FS2002 Vought XF5U. The Vought XF5U-1 Flying Flapjack was an experimental U.S. Navy fighter aircraft designed by Charles H. Zimmerman during World War II. This unorthodox design consisted of a flat, somewhat disk-shaped body serving as the lifting surface. The body drove propellers located on the leading edge at the wingtips. Two aircraft were constructed. The only completed XF5U-1 proved to be so structurally solid that it had to be destroyed by a wrecking ball. Model and textures by Richard Alexander van Hien.

  18. FS2000/FS2002 Caproni CA133

FS2000/FS2002 Caproni CA133. Motorised with three engines, but more powerful than the previous Ca.101'ones, it had a mixed construction, with a skeleton of steel tubes for the fuselage and a high wing, roughly elliptical, made structurally in wood and steel, while plywood and fabric were used as skin (fabric was used especially for fuselage). All this gave to this aircraft simplicity and economical maintenance, but also quite modest performances. The weaponry was meant as four machine-guns, one dorsal, one ventral, two laterals, all of Vickers model, another reminiscence of the technology developed in WWI. The bomb bay was able to hold around 800-1000 kg load, and there was the possibility to hold under the fuselage the bigger ordnances, as 500 kg bombs or their versions with chemical charges. The engines were in the nose and under the wings, sustained with strong steel tubes, with elliptical section. The undercarriage was totally fixed. By Richard Alexander van Hien.

  19. FS2000 SNCAO ACA 5

FS2000 SNCAO ACA 5. On the 9th June 1939 the technical director of SNCAO , former Loire-Nieuport, M. Kerguistel received a letter from engineer A. Kolko. Recommended by M. Caquot, president of the SNCA firm A. Kolko proposed his plans for a new aircraft concept. Following this patent a tourist aircraft, a bomber and a fighter was suggested all with a very compact look. The main principle was to keep the concept compact by placing all elements of the construction as close to the center of gravity as possible, while still retaining great movability. Interested by this concept, M. Caquot ordered a wind tunnel model to be tested. On the 20th of June M. Kerguistel was ready with his first report. Despite the longitudal stability was reasonable the stability on the ground should be far less. Several modifications to the fins and rudders could only partially solve the problem. Most of the calculated performances were found correct but the air intakes for the radiator and the cooling of the engine was very doubtfull. In general it was concluded that the design had technical advantages, but a lot of problems too. By letter of the 22th June 1937 from M. Caquot all work at SNCAO was stopped. Maybe longer studies and tests could have resulted in a war winning fighter... Model and textures by Richard Alexander van Hien.

  20. FS2000/FS2002 BLOCH 174

FS2000/FS2002 BLOCH 174 and its family of derivatives were French reconnaissance and bomber aircraft designed and built shortly before World War II. They were, by far, the best aircraft of this type available to the Armee de l'Air at the outbreak of war, with speed and maneuverability that allowed them to evade interception by the German fighters of the time. Delayed deliveries until 1940. Too few in number to make any measurable impact on the Battle of France, they continued in service with the Vichy forces after the armistice. The MB.174 will also be remembered as the aircraft flown by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, author of "The Little Prince" during the campaign. Model and textures by Richard Alexander van Hien.

  22. FS2000/FS2002 Fokker DXXIII

FS2000/FS2002 Fokker DXXIII twin-engined, single-seat fighter. The D.23. had air-cooled in-line engines in a tandem arrangment, one in the nose and one in the end of the central nacelle. Slender booms carried the tailplane. This was Fokker's last fighter. It had two 520 hp Walter-Sagitta engines and the maximum speed was 520 km/h, very fast in that time. The D.23 had one major disadvantage: if the pilot had to leave the plane at any moment for a parachute jump, he would have been cut into pieces by the rear propeller. At that time, Fokker studied the possibilities of a ejection seat. Date of first flight: 1939. The prototype was destroyed in 1940. Model and textures by Richard Alexander van Hien.

  23. FS2000/FS2002 IAI ARAVA 202

FS2000/FS2002 IAI ARAVA 202. In the Yom Kippur War (1973), several Arava 201 planes were conscripted by the IAF for transport missions in the Sinai. In the early 1980's, a number of Arava planes entered service with the IAF, and carried out transport, instructional and operational assignments. After 'Peace for the Galilee', the planes were employed for carrying troops between Lebanon and Israel. These flights made use of the Arava's ability to land on short, rough airstrips. Heyl Ha'avir also purchased the more advanced model of the Arava, the Arava 202, which is equipped with more powerful engines. Today, the Arava is one of the IAF's principal troop-carrying transports. Model and textures by Richard Alexander van Hien.

  24. FS2000/FS2002 AMIOT 143

FS2000/FS2002 AMIOT 143. The Amiot 143M entered service in July, 1935. The design was already ten years old and was quite out of date. Nevertheless, 87 Amiot 143M were in the front line. 50 equipped four metropolitan groupes: GBs I/34 and II/34 in the north, GBs I/38 and II/38 in the east, and 17 equipped one African groupe as of 10 May 1940. During the Phoney War, Amiot 143M groupes carried out reconnaissance and leaflet raids over Germany. Upon the start of the Battle of France, the Amiot 143M was used in night attacks on German lines of communications. The most significant action involving the Amiot 143M was a daring daylight raid on German bridgeheads near Sedan took place on May 14, 1940. Models and texture by Richard Alexander van Hien.
